Just when we finished breakfast, JARVIS announced: "y/n, your presence is requested in conference room 12 by the director"
I gulped, but maintained my composure. Somehow this guy scared me. "Guess imma go now" I told the others and made my way to the said room.
"Uh uh uh, not so fast. I'll come with you" Yelena said and I rolled my eyes at the assumption of me, running away. Yeah okay, maybe it wasn't that unrealistic.
We arrived and saw Fury, together with another agent of SHIELD. I set on a smirk as I entered.
"If that isn't my favorite pirate" I greeted and sat down opposite the two.
He rolled his eyes, but chose to ignore the comment. "Good to see you're still here" he stated dryly and I narrowed my eyes.
"What? Do I have something in my face?" He smirked at me, as I stared him down.
"Eyepatch... ?" I mumbled quietly, looking around the room.
"What was that?"
"Nothing" I answered innocently as I looked back up.
"We still have some unanswered questions and I highly suggest you to answer them now, otherwise we'll have to use some more unpleasant methods" he continued, which send small shivers down my spine. Of course that's what it is about.
"Just ask already" I said in an annoyed tone to suppress my nervousness, every hint of sarcasm instantly gone from my face.
"Who do you work for?" Agent Hill, as I learned her name was, asked rather friendly.
"I don't work for anyone than myself" I stated.
"How'd you get your powers?" She continued.
I clenched my jaw. I didn't want them to know about my time at HYDRA, but I knew they would probably not hesitate to get one of those fucking tasers out.
"In an...experiment" I said.
"How long have you had them?" The director asked further.
"Uhm.. since I was seven I think. I'm not sure" this could I answer honestly.
"Who did those experiments?" Agent Hill questioned and I grew uncomfortable with all the pressure. I tried to forget about my past for a reason.
"Scientists" I tried to dodge the inevitable.
Fury sighed deeply. "Don't play with us. This is serious, goddammit!" He hit his fist on the table, making my eyes go wide.
I felt Yelena's hand on my leg to try and soothe me, but I registered the fear that grew inside of me.
"How. Did. You. Get. These. Powers?" He asked threateningly calmly.
My hands began to shake slightly. "hydra" I whispered, quickly looking down at the table.
He sat back in his chair, obviously satisfied with the answer. "Finally" he sighed.
"Please enlighten us about it a bit more" Fury dug into it. When I didn't do anything, he added: "Maybe a small shock could be motivating?"
I flinched slightly. "They, they did tests and experiments and I- I don't know, somewhen I just got them" I said, my voice quiet and weak.
"Are there any others with powers like yours?" The agent asked interested.
I shook my head. "No. I mean, we were ten, I think, but only I survived" I tried to make my voice sound strong, but it was like a glass with a huge crack, holding itself together somehow, only needed to be touched by a soft wind blow to shatter into a thousand pieces.
And every single one of these questions hit me like a hurricane.
Yelena's pov:
I softly squeezed her leg, trying to calm her down. I didn't need to be a spy and assassin to see how she felt. I really wanted to get her out of this interrogation, but knew that this questions were needed to be answered, so I tried to be as supportive as I could be for her right now.
"What about your family?" Fury asked and Maria and I exchanged concerned glances.
"I can't remember them. I can't remember anything before HYDRA, only that they're dead" she answered, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Okay. You can go now" Maria released the in distress looking girl. Y/n stood up without hesitation.
Y/n's pov:
I was endlessly relieved when the agent said I could go. I practically jumped up and quickly walked out of the room, my body only seconds from collapsing.
My last answer wasn't exactly a lie, but the fact that the HYDRA agents made sure to shoot my parents in front of my seven- year- old being didn't need to be told.
I almost ran to Yelena's room, demanding JARVIS to lock the door with the last bit of a clear voice I had. I slumped down on the bed and began to sob uncontrollably.
I was shaking like a leaf in a thunderstorm and curled up into a ball, trying to make myself as small as possible. I desperately tried to suppress the tears that threatened to burst out and inhaled sharply, only to be interrupted by a big sob.
Someone banged at the door, but of course I didn't open. I didn't want to be seen like this. Guess this was why HYDRA tried to enhance me. I was weak. Pathetic. Useless. I couldn't even stand a little interrogation.
Suddenly a voice said: "JARVIS, open the door!"
Yelena immediately rushed through and gasped at my sight. "Oh my god, y/n! I'm so sorry" she exclaimed and approached me.
"Go away" I cried, attempting to curl myself up even more.
"I won't leave you, y/n" she replied steadily.
"Just go" I sobbed, but was instantly embraced in a warm hug. Yelena sat down next to me and pulled me into her lap, one arm protectively around me, the other drawing small circles on my back.
"It's okay, it's fine" she cooed as the shaking and sobbing only intensified.
I didn't even know what to feel. Everything was too much, so I just continued to cry and hoped she wouldn't leave me. And she didn't. She held me tight and whispered sweet nothings in my ear, slowly but surely calming me down.
I felt a wave of exhaustion hit me and squeezed my eyes shut, only focusing on Yelena's steady breathing and her warmth and comfort.
"That's good, you're doing great" she soothed, giving me the unfamiliar feeling of trust and praise. Something I've never really experienced.
Soon enough, I began to relax in her lap and let the exhaustion overtake my being. With continuing to draw circles on my back and holding me tight, she successfully managed to put me to sleep, letting an urgently needed peacefulness surround me.
A/N:
