A few days had passed and it was finally weekend. School was fine, it was a bit annoying to have to get up so early, since I was no morning person, but I liked hanging out with Peter, Ned and MJ. I already knew most of the stuff they tried to teach us from HYDRA. A few things were quite unnecessary, in my eyes, since I didn't see how they would be helpful in a fight or to survive, but we needed to learn them anyways, which was very annoying.
I was currently sitting on the kitchen island, drinking orange juice and reading a book. It was quite early, but I couldn't fall back asleep after another nightmare. Steve, Sam and Bucky were out for their morning run and the rest was still sleeping, so I had a bit time alone.
After an hour or so, a very excited Peter came running into the common room, brightly smiling at me.
"There you are!" He greeted. "I just asked MJ if she would like to watch a movie with me and she said yes! It's like a date!"
"Oh that's cool, I'm happy for you," I laughed as he joined me on the table with a bowl of cereal.
It wasn't a lie, I was genuinely happy for him, but it somehow gave me this strange feeling. The first thing I thought of was Yelena, how we watched movies together on the couch. A warm feeling spread through my body at the memory and for a brief moment I wished she was here, but unfortunately she had to leave with Nat and Clint for a small mission.
"Anyways, how's it going with Yelena?" Peter asked as if he just read my mind, bringing another spoon full of cereal to his mouth.
I looked up from my book. "What? Everything's fine, I think, why?"
He chuckled. "I just thought you had something because you're always looking at her and she's looking at you when you're not looking."
"Wha- she does?" Now I was curious.
I didn't even notice I was staring at her, but I mean who wouldn't? Her body was perfect, the way she puts her hair back in this messy bun, but it still looked beautiful. How she did this funny, monotone expression every time she was pissed off by someone. Or how she made fun of Clint whilst beating his ass in training and I loved her accent- "y/n?"
"Huh?" My head shot up as I was ripped out of my thoughts by a knowingly smiling Peter.
"Were you thinking about her?" He teased.
Yes. "No."
"Yes you were. I don't need Wanda's powers to tell. But it's okay, you two would be very cute together."
I felt my cheeks flush red. "You think? I'm not sure, she's-" "y/n," Peter cut me off. "Don't overthink it. Everyone can see she clearly likes you as well. You told me to ask out MJ when I was too shy, so now it's your turn."
"I'll remember it" I stated sternly, not wanting to continue this. "I don't wanna ruin our friendship and make it awkward, I need time."
"You can't ruin your friendship, the only thing you can ruin is the chance of becoming more. Asking MJ out was one of the best decisions I've ever made," Peter assured.
"Okay, okay, thanks for the advice, I'll think about it," I grumbled.
"Fine, let's make breakfast for everyone," he said and I nodded.
After breakfast, I was extremely bored, since Peter went to Ned, Pietro and Wanda were shopping, so I didn't want to ruin their together time and Kate was visiting her mother. I pondered whether I should go to Tony's lab and try out his stuff, or if I should borrow Cap's shield and play a bit around. I chose the letter.
Steve was still in the common area, so I quickly grabbed the shield out of his room. It was actually not as heavy as I anticipated, maybe like twelve pounds. "Whoa," I mumbled in awe. Holding the shield of Captain America was truly a great feeling and I chuckled when I could hide my whole body behind it.
Luckily for me, no one was on the trainings floor, so I had much space to have fun with the shield. I tried to throw it, like Steve always did, but I ended up just tossing it to the ground a few meters away from me.
"How is he doing this?" I wondered out loud, examining the frisbee. I tried again, letting the shield slide off my arm and it surprisingly worked. I let out an excited squeal, running after the shield and trying again.
After a while, I finally managed to throw it smoothly, however instead of bouncing off the wall, it embedded itself into it. "Oh shit!" I exclaimed with wide eyes as I saw the huge split where the shield was stuck. This wall was definitely worth thousands of dollars.
"Oh nononono. That's not good, they're gonna kill me," I mumbled, trying to grab the shield, but I couldn't get it out. I shifted into a tiger and tried jumping at it, so it would fall, but I just hit my shoulder very hard. "Oh fuck you!" I hissed at it and kicked the wall in frustration.
"Language."
I turned around to see Tony and Steve with their arms crossed over their chest, eyes traveling between me and the wall. Oh damn.
"Mind enlighten us to why you have a fight with the wall?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow expectantly.
"Uh..." I just stood there, not knowing how to explain it without getting a huge punishment. I knew I fucked up, but I didn't know what they would do now, since I never really did anything bad except for a few mocking jokes and this one messed up mission a few weeks ago, but that was something else. All I knew was that HYDRA would've seen a beating an appropriate action, but the Avengers preferred tasers more, at least in my experience, so I wasn't sure about their next move.
I stood there, petrified, as Steve ripped his shield out of the wall with one fluid motion.
"Uh, I, it's- I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to- it just, a-and then-" I stumbled over my own words, desperately trying to figure out what they were going to do to me, but none of them seemed interested in striking out at me, which only caused my anxiety levels to skyrocket.
"Slow down, kiddo," Stark said, extending one hand in my direction and I flinched violently. He frowned and quickly pulled away.
"I-I- It was an accident! Please, I'm sorry! Please don't- I'm sorry," I rambled, taking a step away from them, which would probably get me into even more trouble, but my mind screamed at me to run. Deep inside I was hoping, knowing they wouldn't hurt me, but three months with the Avengers against nine years at HYDRA couldn't made up what I experienced.
"Hey, it's okay. We just want to know what happened, we won't hurt you because of it," Steve said, but knowingly remained my built up distance between us.
"I was bored and thought it would be fun to try and throw your shield around. I'm sorry," I hung my head in shame, not wanting to see their disappointed faces.
I heard Steve sigh and then Tony speaking up. "It's just a wall, I can have it repaired."
"But it was very dangerous. You could've accidentally hit yourself or someone else, apart from the fact you just grabbed it without my consent or knowledge at all," Steve added.
I nodded, keeping my head down until I felt a hand on my shoulder and tensed up, not daring to back away for the second time. I just squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for his fist to collide with my cheek, but nothing came.
I warily opened my eyes again to see a concerned looking Steve and Tony exchanging glances.
"It's fine. You're fine. Just don't let it happen again," Steve told me. I still didn't move just yet, fearing I could regret it to show the hope.
"Oh y/n," Steve mumbled, pulling me into a hug, one hand on the back of my head.
Shit, was he disappointed that I didn't move? Why did they look so sorrowful at me? They're supposed to be furious! I just damaged an extremely expensive wall pretty badly.
After a few seconds, I pushed all my doubts aside and melted into my dad's hug.
"Thanks," I mumbled softly.
A/N:
And well, this was a perfect opportunity to add a bit of y/n's ✨trauma✨.
Anyway, have a nice day/evening/night! :)
