We went to the kitchen island in the common room and saw the rest of the team, who prepared breakfast. Their faces faltered slightly at the sight of Steve and send questioning glances at us.
"Don't-" Wanda warned, but I quickly said: "no, it's fine, Wanda" I turned to Thor, Loki, Bruce, Pietro and Peter and explained: "I was training and Steve startled me, so I accidentally punched him in the face"
Loki's eyes lit up and he smiled mischievously. "I like her"
Thor rolled his eyes. "Of course, brother"
After breakfast, everyone minded their own business, but suddenly JARVIS announced, that I was requested by director Fury immediately.
Everyone's eyes widened and they turned to me with concerned faces. I just shrugged it off and got into the elevator, Yelena following me as always.
This time, I just greeted shortly and sat down as the director, agent Hill and another agent observed me.
"Before we start, this is agent Coulson, you only met once, when you outran his team" Fury said, then took out a manila folder.
"Now to the point of this meeting. We want to offer you a place in the Avengers initiative. Over the last weeks, we kept a close eye on you and we believe you would be a very valuable asset to the team"
I just stared at him for a moment. Did they really want me on the team? I always thought they were just being nice to get information about HYDRA.
"I.. Wait? I don't even know how to fight" was the first thing I answered.
"We watched every footage of you. You may not be the best in hand to hand combat, but you're very good at planing and strategizing how to succeed with what you want. You've proven that when you escaped and in the game a few days ago as well" Agent Coulson explained.
"And if I don't want?" I asked. Of course I wanted. The team seemed to like me, otherwise Fury wouldn't have made this offer, but I wanted to see my choices.
"Well, we hoped you would accept. We can't let you run free, since HYDRA would take you at the first opportunity, so we would have to keep you at a SHIELD base, save but confined" agent Hill said.
"Yeah okay, that's not much of a choice, is it" I stated. "Guess I go with the first option then"
"Just sign this. And welcome to the Avengers initiative, miss l/n" Fury said when I signed everything.
Suddenly, a certain guy with bow and arrow crashed down onto the table, making agent Hill and Yelena pull out a gun and everyone else jumping back.
"Congratulations y/n!" He shrieked.
"What the fuck! Why were you spying on us?!" I exclaimed.
"Not my idea" he shrugged. "The others wanted to make sure you're okay"
"Whatever, go clarify that outside. You're dismissed" Fury rolled his eyes, well eye because, yeah..
I quickly made my way into the common room and saw Tony frantically turning off a screen. Yelena and I crossed our arms over the chest and narrowed our eyes at them.
"It's not what it looks like" Sam quickly said.
"Looks like spying on us to me"
"Okay it is what it looks like.. but we needed to make sure you're okay" Pietro defended.
I sighed annoyed, but decided to leave it. Instead I just slumped down on the couch with all my limbs stretched out, thinking about my decision. It was definitely better than being locked up in a SHIELD base, but somehow I missed the freedom I had for a few weeks after I escaped from HYDRA.
Nat sat down next to me. "What bothers you?" She kindly asked.
I knew the others were listening, even though they pretended to do other stuff, but since Sam held a book upside down and Thor stared at the very interesting microwave, I had the feeling they were paying attention to our conversation.
"I don't know" I answered.
"Come on. Whatever it is, you can tell me" she assured patiently.
"HYDRA's still after me, aren't they?" I asked after a moment of silence. Now I was certain I had everyone's attention.
"Yes, I won't lie to you. But they are after Bucky and the twins as well and HYDRA never even got close to capturing them" she told me honestly.
"Really, this is the safest place you could be" Steve agreed.
"I don't want to be tortured again.." I said casually. I wasn't sad, neither did I want pity. I just needed to sort my thoughts.
"The only torture you'll get is this" Nat smirked and before I could react to what she said, her hands were on my stomach, tickling me. I instantly squirmed and tried to get away, but she just continued, laughing at me gasping for air.
"S-stop, I'm dy-dying!" I croaked and she removed her hands, letting me catch my breath.
I quickly shot up and tackled her to the ground, trying to tickle her, but she just flipped us over and pinned me down. My eyes widened and she smirked as she started tickling me again.
"Help!" I squeaked, but the others just laughed. "Traitors!" I laugh- screamed at them and freed myself out of her grip, running to Steve and hiding behind his big form.
"Steve, help me!" I pleaded as I used him as a shield.
"Steve-" Nat warned playfully and he stepped aside.
"Sorry kid, I don't want to get on her bad side" he said.
I shifted into a white, fluffy cat, ran between her legs and jumped into Loki's arms, who had no choice than to catch me out of the air.
Luckily, Natasha had no intentions on tackling Loki, so I stayed in his arms. The god seemed a bit uncertain, so I instinctively started to purr softly as an attempt to make him feel comfortable.
"Aww, you're so cute" Yelena exclaimed and took me out of the god's arms, cuddling me into her face like a stuffed animal.
"I want too!" Wanda squeaked and before they could squeeze me again, I shifted into a tiger to startle them and into human right afterwards.
"You're right Nat, that is torture" I grumbled, but couldn't hide my small smirk.
"Let's calm down everybody. We got a mission tomorrow, so let's relax for today" Steve announced.
"Perfect, let's watch a movie!" Sam suggested, a bowl with popcorn suddenly in his hands.
"How did you-" Pietro asked, referring to the popcorn, but Sam just smirked at Loki and with a small shimmer of green light, everyone had some snacks and drinks from the kitchen in their hands.
"Niceee" Peter grinned and we cuddled up together on the couches and armchairs.
Being an Avenger really is more relaxing than I thought. At least if you don't have a mission and just die or something.
