I awoke slowly. The bright lights of the medical bay shining in my face and I needed a moment to fully open my eyes. Everything was still numb, but this also meant that I didn't feel any pain, which I was very happy about.

Even though my vision was blurry and my senses still shut down, I could make out some figures around me. Yelena was talking with Nat, and Steve was in a deep conversation with Bruce, but I couldn't concentrate enough to register what they were saying.

I just laid there for a minute, until the monitors next to me alerted every one of my awakening. They rushed to my side, but they seemed happy and not concerned or worried.

"Hey, how are you?" Nat softly spoke, but I just stared at her. I was too dazed and just wanted to go back to sleep and snuggle into the warm and comfortable pillow.

"She's not fully awake yet" Bruce informed them, checking something on the high tech monitors.

I let out a deep breath and closed my eyes again, but something tapped my shoulder. I wanted to ignore it, but it only intensified until I opened my eyes again, looking at Tony in annoyance.

"We can't let you sleep now, sweetheart" he said and I let out a hoarse groan, shaking his hand off.

"Nah ah ah, nope" he insisted chuckling. "Ey Capsicle, make sure she stays awake. I need JARVIS to make some scans"

Steve moved his chair closer to my bed and started talking, softly pulling me out of my groggy state, but that also meant, the pain came back.

"It hurts" I pouted pitiable. "Gimme n'other dose"

Everyone chuckled and Bruce answered: "We'll wait until your properly awake, then you can have some painkillers"

After half an hour, I was more aware of everything and noticed the bandage around my ribcage, almost like a protective shield. They took care of my bruises and cuts as well and finally gave me painkillers through the IV.

"What did they do to you?" Nat asked. I was still laying in the hospital bed, but everyone was allowed to visit me now.

"They were pretty pissed that I escaped. And since I didn't give them any information about you, they used force, but didn't achieve anything" I explained.

"Why the hell did you even leave the tower in the first place?" Steve exclaimed. "On your own I have to add"

"I was bored. And frustrated because you wouldn't allow me to go on the mission" I said, but he crossed his arms.

"I'm just glad Fury send these agents after you" Nat said, mirroring Steve's posture. They literally looked like a disappointed mum and dad.

"Wait? What?" I asked after realizing what she had said.

Just before they could start lecturing me, the said man with eyepatch came in, hands behind his back like usual. He didn't look disappointed, nor concerned. More like pleased with himself.

"Yes, I send some agents to follow you" the director confirmed Nat's statement.

"Does that mean you don't trust me?" I narrowed my eyes at him and he chuckled amused.

"Last time I trusted a cat I lost an eye. It's just precaution and I think you can be glad I did what I did" he said.

"Huh" I hummed, so he continued.

"My agents got distracted by some HYDRA men, but we managed to track you down anyway. That's the reason we had a small delay in getting you back"

"Yeah, no problem. I was just tortured. Thanks for the rescue by the way" I said smiling, which must've looked like sarcasm.

"Good to see you still have your sarcastically remarks. Stark, you sure this isn't your child?" Fury turned to look at Tony, who laughed.

"Unfortunately" he replied.

"But we have to clear one thing" pirate man said, turning back to me. "Since you're an official Avenger, you'll be staying here. But we still need some legal guardians for you and Rogers and Romanoff decided they would take over the role"

My eyes shot towards the two, who looked at me as well. I didn't need to think long. I already saw them as parent figures, since they also acted like them to me and the younger Avengers.

"Do you really want me?" I couldn't help but ask this question. Deep inside I knew they all loved me and so did I, but HYDRA can really give you insecurities in believing in yourself.

"Of course, honey! We're a family and we love you" Nat instantly answered.

"Don't think of what HYDRA might've told you. You're one of us and you'll always be" Steve agreed, making me smile.

"Okay, then I would like you as my parents" I said and Fury nodded.

"We'll take care of the legal stuff" he said. This organization really could do anything. And I liked it.

Fury left, making space for the rest of the team to come in and visit me. It was fun, but also quite exhausting, since I was a bit overwhelmed with everything.

At some point, Bruce and Tony decided that it was enough of excitement.

"Okay, I'm usually not the one to break up a party, but kid over here needs to rest now. And I don't mean this kid" he said, motioning to Peter. Actually, he called every one of us teenagers 'kid'.

"Y/n's still on some pretty strong drugs, so this is all a bit too much" Bruce added and everyone, except for Nat, Steve and Yelena, who insisted on staying, left.

"Thanks" I mumbled and the two men nodded understandingly.

"So, your vitals are good, injuries are taken care of and your fever has gone down a bit. You're allowed to sleep now, since everything is fine" Stark told me with a satisfied smirk.

"Get some rest, hun. Bruce and Tony will be staying here the entire time and work on their projects, so if anything happens they'll be right here" Nat said and I nodded, relieved that I wouldn't be alone.

Stark dimmed the lights in the one half of the huge med bay, so I could get some sleep, while they'd work on the other half. It didn't take long until I drifted off again, smiling at the thought that I was now save.
