Owned my Yesterday

In shadows deep, where chains did bind, I've lingered long, my spirit pined.
Your grip was iron, your will was strong, but now I hear sweet freedom's song.
For years I've dwelt in this dark place, a prisoner of your cold embrace.
My world confined to walls so gray, but hope, a flame, refused to fray.
You thought you'd broken every part, my will, my dreams, my very heart.
Yet in the depths of my despair, a spark remained, a breath of air.
I've counted days, I've marked the nights, I've longed to see the distant lights.
Of life beyond this grim domain, where joy and laughter flow like rain.
Your words were thorns, your touch was ice, but I held fast to paradise.
The memory of a life once free, sustained the soul you couldn't see.
And now I feel the shifting tide, the weakening of your cruel hide.
The bars that held me start to bend, this captive tale comes to an end.
I hear the key turn in the lock, my heart beats fast, my senses shock.
The door creaks open, light pours in, a new chapter about to begin.
You've held me captive long enough, through times both tender and times tough.
But now I rise, no longer meek, my freedom close, its voice unique.
I step beyond the shadow's reach, my spirit soars, no longer leashed.
The world awaits with open arms, free from your spell, free from your charms.
The sun caresses my pale face, as I emerge with newfound grace.
The chains fall off, they clatter down, I stand tall, wearing freedom's crown.
You may have owned my yesterday, but now I claim each coming day.
The future stretches, vast and bright, no longer shrouded in your night.
So farewell to the life constrained, to all the tears, the joy restrained.
I leave behind your captive's cage, and step into a brand new age.
For freedom calls with siren song, and I've awaited far too long.
My spirit wild, my heart untamed, no more by your dark power chained.
The world's horizon opens wide, as I embark on freedom's ride.
New adventures wait to unfold, my story no longer controlled.
So thank you for the lessons learned, in captivity, wisdom earned.
But now I fly on wings unfurled, embracing my reclaimed world.
You've held me captive long enough, but I've emerged, both strong and tough.
My freedom's dawn has finally come, and to its call, I gladly run.
