In shadows deep where mortals fear to tread, I walk with ease, my footsteps light and sure.
For by my side, a presence others dread, the Reaper glides, my macabre allure.
His scythe gleams dull in twilight's fading glow, a silent promise of the end to come.
But I, immune to death's relentless flow, find solace in his company, though numb.
We wander through the graveyard's mournful rows, where headstones whisper tales of lives long past.
He points to names, and suddenly, he knows their stories, sins, and secrets unsurpassed.
I listen as he speaks of souls he's reaped, of last breaths taken, final tears that fell.
The weight of countless deaths, forever heaped upon his shoulders and the stories he must tell.
In me, he finds a friend who does not cower, who sees beyond his fearsome, grim facade.
We share the burden of his awesome power, as hand in hand through mortal realms we trod.
Sometimes, I catch him weeping silently, for innocents he's forced to take too soon.
I offer comfort, though inadequately, my words as cold and distant as the moon.
He shows me realms where living dare not go, the in between of life and death's domain.
Where spirits linger, lost in limbo's flow, their essence trapped in never-ending pain.
I've learned to read the signs of his approach, the sudden chill, the shadows growing long.
On death's dark door, I've learned to gently knock, and harmonize with his funereal song.
Yet friendship with the Reaper comes at cost, for I'm detached from warmth of mortal ties.
In twilight worlds, eternally I'm lost, my soul entwined with death that never dies.
But would I trade this bond so dark and deep, for ignorant bliss of mundane mortal life?
No.
I'd rather secrets of death to keep, and dance with shadows on the edge of strife.
So when you feel a chill upon your spine, and catch a glimpse of darkness drawing near, remember that the Reaper's not malign, he has a friend who holds his presence dear.
For in the end, when your time comes to pass, and you must face the threshold of beyond, perhaps you'll see me standing there at last, beside the Reaper.
His confidant and friend.
