Dennis' POV

Want to ruin your day more? Here, take an Umbridge.

Name: Dennis Jayden Blackwater

Age: 12

Overall health condition: Normal

Awakened Gender: Omega (O)

An omega. I am an omega. It's a feeling that doesn't classify either as happiness nor disappointment and dejection. It is a moment where you're too absorbed in what just happened to even consider your emotions.

But as I held the letter, my fingers tracing over that word, a sudden sense of exhilaration rose in my chest. That feeling as if I was jumping in slow motion in the air. My fingers tingled with that energy. It was that realization that I had started on a new chapter; possibly a life-changing one.

I glanced at Neil. His stiff shoulders slumped and he sighed in relief. He showed me his letter:

Name: Neil Cullen Byrne

Age: 12

Overall health condition: Normal

Awakened Gender: Beta (B)

"The same as my mom and dad." He gave a small smile.

"Kudos to continuing the family tradition." I grinned. Frankly, I would be fine with whatever gender Neil awakened because that's not something we decide ourselves. I've heard that though we don't awaken our secondary gender until puberty, it's actually determined at birth and is also dependent on what gender your parents are. Hence, the blood test that was taken.

We looked around at our class, all of whom had opened their letters. There were a myriad of reactions; from loud cheering in their seats, dramatic gasps of surprise, wide-eyed shocked expressions and gentler looks of resignation and acceptance.

Chatter broke out everywhere. Everyone wanted to tell their gender and know others. "See!" Brian gave a haughty smile at his friends, doing an irritating hair-flip. "I told you it would be nothing but an alpha!" That elicited a couple of "ooohs" and "that's so cool!!" from his neighbors and looks of jealousy from a couple of others.

"Oh, it's a beta." A girl near him, (I guess Kelly) let out in disappointment. "There's nothing wrong with being a beta!" Her best friend Sarah insisted. "Easy for you to say, you got to be an alpha." Kelly muttered under her breath, tossing her letter carelessly into her bag.

That's when I felt someone approaching us in my peripheral vision. The curtain of brown hair was enough clue for me to guess who it was. "Well, the big moment's finally over." Rin smiled, clutching her letter in her hands as a warm, proud blush lit her cheeks. "You know, I just prayed that whatever I got, I'll learn to be happy with it."

"You sure seem happy." Neil grinned. And Rin blushed more. "Yes, I-I am an omega."

"You too?!" I let out. That makes her the first omega in our class aside from me!

"Wait...you mean-you too?!" Rin exclaimed. I showed her my letter.

"That's great!" Rin's eyes sparkled with true joy. "I thought I'd be the only one. Almost everyone's a beta and some are alphas. I think a couple of them in that corner might be omegas but they weren't sharing their gender with anyone. But I am glad I have you."

"Likewise." I nodded. Of course, I could already see the effect the gender revelation was having on everybody. Old friends suddenly questioning their dynamics with each other, people of a particular gender displaying tendencies of leaning towards groupism and others distancing themselves from their former friend circles.
