Past
They had slipped away, leaving the laughter and music behind, to their shared apartment—where they had built their lives, memories, laughter, sorrow and pain together.
Kook had been quieter than usual tonight, and eyes shadowed with something Tae couldn’t quite place.
Still, Tae didn’t push. They were always so in sync that sometimes silence felt as meaningful as words.
As they stepped inside, their tension felt almost palpable, like a current pulling them closer.
Kook closed the door behind them, his eyes lingering on her more than usual. It was not the everyday look. It's different. Tae could sense it.
Something is off about him.
Kook's heart was heavy with the weight of her father's warnings from earlier that day, the threats still ringing in his ears.
--Stay away from Tae, or I’ll ruin your life and, importantly, her.-- his father’s voice had been ice-cold.
The words had deepened his fear, but Kook kept it all inside.
He couldn’t burden Tae with this.
Not tonight.Tae, however, could feel something stirring in the air, something unsaid between them.
She reached out to touch his arm, and the connection was instant like it always had been since they were kids.
Tae: “Bun, you’ve been quiet tonight. Is everything okay?”
Her voice was soft and comforting, but Kook couldn’t answer honestly. He couldn’t tell her about his impossible choice to choose her or lose everything.
Instead, he reached for her, gently at first, fingers brushing against her cheek as he cupped her face. His touch lingered, and she closed her eyes, leaning into his warmth.
Kook: “I’m fine,”
He whispered, his voice rougher than he wanted it to be.But in his heart, he knew
he wasn’t okay.
He was breaking.
He was falling. His lips found hers, slow at first, but the kiss deepened quickly, fueled by the emotions he couldn’t bring himself to voice.
Kook kissed her like it was the last time like he was trying to imprint every sensation and every inch of her's into his memory.
Tae felt the shift immediately
something was different.The urgency,
the need in his touch,
the way he held her as if he was trying to pour everything into this moment, into her.Tae didn’t pull back. She only leaned into him more, giving her everything to him, as her hands slid up his chest, feeling the thundering of his heart beneath her palms.
It was a heartbeat that had been hers for years since they were kids. Her pulse matched him; together, they were fire and water, burning with the intensity of years of friendship and love that had evolved into something more profound.
Tae: “Kookie…”
She whispered his name between kisses, but her words dissolved into a soft sigh as Kook's lips travelled down her neck, brushing her skin with the lightest of touches before he nipped gently at her collarbone. He couldn’t stop.
His hands moved all over her body,
memorising every curve,
every line,
even though he still has some time left.
