That night:
The room was quiet.
Kook had fallen asleep first. Meanwhile, Tae was turning and tossing on her bed. It took too long for her to fall asleep, but it was not peaceful either.
Tae: "No... please,"
She whispered in her sleep.Tae: "Don't say that... don't walk away..."
She starts to shake under the covers, brows furrowed. She clenched onto her blanket tightly.
The dream which she usually gets is back again.
Kook heard it. He sat up instantly.
Kook: "Tae?"
His voice was low, still heavy with sleep. He looked over. He moved without thinking. Slid into her bed, gently wrapping his arms around her from behind.
Kook: "Tae, bear. I'm right here."He whispered, pressing his cheek agaisnt her hair.
Kook: "It's just a dream."
He says.Tae continued to mumble for a few more seconds, and Kook whispered sweet nothings to her.
Kook: "I'm sorry,"
He said quietly.Kook: "For everything. For that night... for leaving."
Pressing his lips to her hair. Her fingers slowly gripped his arm.Kook: "You don't have to be scared anymore. I'm here. Always. I'm never leaving you again."
Her breathing slowed. The shaking stopped. Still half-asleep, Tae let herself fall into the warmth holding her.
He stayed up for a while, brushing his fingers gently through her hair until her body relaxed fully into his.
Next Morning:
The light hadn't touched the curtains yet. Tae stirred first, her eyes barely opening. Her head was resting on Kook's chest. His arms still around her. His warmth surrounding every part of her.
She blinked slowly. Everything felt too calm, too soft, too real.
Then it hit her,
The nightmare.
And the way he held her through it.
The way he spoke softly to calm her down. She looked up at his face. His eyes were closed, breath steady, lips parted slightly like he was deep asleep.
Her hand rested lightly on his shirt.
Without thinking, she leaned in. A small kiss, right over his chest, where his heart was.
Just soft and full of everything she hadn't said out loud yet.
Then she tucked herself closer to him, burying her face into his crook.
She missed this.
His warmth.
His scent.
The way his body felt safe. Her fingers curled into his hoodie gently as she let herself fall back asleep in his arms.
And then, Kook's lips lifted into the smallest smile.
He pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head, eyes still closed.
He didn't say anything. But his arms pulled her just a little closer.
After a few hours:
Tae blinked her eyes open. She felt it before she saw it.
The warmth. The arm was still around her waist. The soft sound of someone breathing beside her.
She slowly looked up, and he was awake. Not saying anything. Just... blinking at the ceiling, thinking of all the other nights she suffered.
His hand was still gently resting on her side. Like he didn't want to move first.
