Feeling rather dejected after meeting up with Woodsy to discuss whether or not she and Ca$h could come back to school, wherein the principle denied their request in order for Hartley to be a 'safe space', Jack flopped into her bed, immediately regretting the action as a stab of pain shot through her side where the bruises from Kylie's repetitive kicking every time she got off of her bunk still remained quite tender despite slowly fading.
As she lay there with her eyes shut she could hear Darude quacking at something down the hall, sounding rather frustrated—for a duck anyway—and so she got up to see what was wrong with him. She found him standing outside of Ca$h's closed bedroom door, trying to get inside.
With a sigh she knocked on the door, knowing Darren was over, "Dougie, Darren, are you both decent? Darude is going mental out here." She called through the door and waited for a moment until she heard them both call back that they were fine before opening the door.
"How come you're up and dressed so early if you don't have school?" Darren asked as she followed the duck inside. She shut the door behind her and sat down on the bottom of Ca$h's bed, shrugging, "I'm used to getting up early I guess."
"I'm so jelly, you two are gonna have so much free time." Darren whined and a moment later the bedroom door burst open, "is that right?" Nan inquired incredulously, "You'd better make yourselves useful then, eh? The garden's bloody desperate for a prune, and that bush out the front—"she scoffed, "—is even wilder than mine."
Jack looked down at her lap, shaking her head in amusement at the woman, knowing she wouldn't let them have a moments peace now that they were back home unless they went back to school which she didn't know wasn't an option.
Just as she thought, Nan continued, "Either that or you go and have a chat with that stuck up principle about going back to school."
"No." said Ca$h, crossing his arms over his chest and Jack could tell he was a little upset about Woodsy not letting them back despite Harper dropping her case, "You couldn't pay me to go back there. It's bloody embarrassing I was even still there to begin with."
Nan let out a noise of annoyance before looking to her granddaughter expectantly. Jack shook her head, "No way, it's pathetic still being stuck in year 11." She muttered, only partially lying. It was embarrassing being a year behind but she didn't care that much since nobody really acknowledged it.
"Well who's bloody fault is it that you missed a year?" Nan exclaimed, "Not mine, that's for certain. I just had to shell out on the rehab bills." Jack sighed and avoided Darren's questioning stare, "I know, sorry."
Nan let out a huff, "figure something out because I can't have you rattling around here all day. I need my privacy." She told them and just then an old guy only wearing his underwear walked up behind Nan from down the hallway—Roger, Nan's boyfriend.
