Jack shoved her face further into her pillow with a groan as she was woken up by a familiar noise by her bed. She peeked one of her eyes open and found herself face to face with her brother's duck, Darude, who must've wandered in through her open bedroom door during the night, his beak mere centimetres from her face. She squeezed her eyes shut again and pulled her duvet tighter around her body and tried to return to her blissful slumber but she couldn't ignore the duck's gaze on her.
"Do you mind?" She questioned, opening her eyes again and turning her head to face him fully. He stared at her and she let out a huff, "what?"
He let out a quack, leaning closer to her face and she groaned before pushing herself up into a seated position and dragged her hands down her face. She grabbed her phone from her bedside table where it was charging and saw it was barely six-thirty, "What the hell Darude? I thought we were mates." She grumbled, shooting the duck an irritated look as she flopped back against her pillows and shut her eyes again in order to get some more sleep.
Not a moment later, her bedroom door flung fully open and Nan burst in, "Up you get, Jackie!" she sang as she pulled open the curtains allowing the light to pour in, "Rise and shine!"
"I'm already awake, Nan," Jack mumbled as she shielded her eyes from the sunlight with her arm.
"Well get your arse up and ready for school," Nan grabbed the duvet and ripped it off of her body, "You're not being late on the bloody first day back. Okay, Jackie?"
"Yep. I'm up. Won't be late."
Nan left the room and Jack dragged herself out of bed and to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face. When she returned to her bedroom Darude had wandered off again, probably back to her brother's room where he stayed most of the time. She grabbed an outfit from her closet and got dressed, sighing heavily at the random purple bruises on her thighs since she couldn't recall how she'd gotten them, before sitting down cross-legged on the floor in front of her mirror to do her hair.
She tied her dirty blonde hair back in a loose braid which hung down her back before she applied a light amount of makeup to her face to make herself look less corpse-like before applying the usual smudged eyeliner and mascara around her eyes as she always did.
As she was sliding her many rings onto her fingers she noticed Ca$h about to pass her room and called out to him, "Ooh, Dougie can you do me some toast, please?" She requested and he nodded before making his way down the hallway to the kitchen, "Thank you."
She got up from the floor and packed her school bag before heading to the kitchen where she found Ca$h standing by the toaster and Nan sitting at the table on her phone playing Words With Friends.
