"Switzerland?" Jack echoed, her tone incredulous as Malakai finished telling her about his mum's new job the next day at school while the two were in the library. Using her finger to keep her place, she scanned over a small text box of information on a map of said country in the book Malakai had told her to look at, "It says here it gets to minus ten degrees in Geneva." She read, "and that veal liver's like a national food."

Malakai chuckled at the girl as she turned around to face him, leaning back on her hands resting on the edge of the library counter, "You're not actually considering going are you?" She asked, her tone a little sad; Malakai was the first friend she'd made in a long time and she didn't want him to leave.

"Could be kinda cool," he supposed, shrugging his shoulders slightly, "They've got these international schools where you ski and learn different languages and stuff so... honestly, uh, right now I'm struggling to think of many reasons to stick around."

Jack would be lying if she said she didn't feel a little hurt by that comment, "Fuck you too, Maxwell." She snapped, crossing her arms over her chest making the boy chuckle, "apart from you." He added making her narrow her eyes at him.

"That felt like an afterthought,"

"Don't be daft, you know you're my best mate," he told her and she hummed, "Sure."

She crossed her arms over her chest and sighed, "Can't your mum just find another job here?" She asked and he shook his head, "No, I want her to go. I mean, the job, it's a huge deal for her. Just, like, dad has another year on his contract here so they said it's up to me." He explained, "I can either stay with him or fly out with mum."

"Well, when do you have to decide?" She asked him and he let out an awkward chuckle, looking down, "uh, mum leaves in like a week. Day of formal, actually."

Jack let out a dejected sigh, realising that Malakai was leaning towards actually moving to Switzerland, "I can't believe you're actually considering this."

Malakai shrugged, "Well, Rowan dropped me. Amerie is just sick of my shit. I just..." he sighed dejectedly, "Don't know, I feel like I messed everything up. Maybe a fresh start would be good for me."

"Look, I know things have been really hard but you should at least stay and try to sort your shit out," she tried to convince him, "otherwise you'll never know if you left because you wanted to or because you were running away like a little bitch."

"Charming as always," he chuckled at her before nodding, "maybe you're right."

She scoffed, "I'm always right." She said before looking back at the book, "oh, it says here that the Swiss are a bunch of little bitches so maybe you'll fit right in."
