Later that night, Jack was led to Malakai's room by his mum and was immediately met with the sight of the boy wrapped up in his duvet with Torn by Natalie Imbruglia playing on the speaker in the corner.
"Wow," she let out, closing the bedroom door behind her before walking over to the bed and sitting down bedside the boy's blanket cocoon, "Come on Maverick, turn into a butterfly for me," she joked as he rolled over so she could see his face but remained in his cocoon, "Sorry I'm a bit later than I said, I had to go to the shop." She apologised, pulling her bag into her lap. She reached past the frog headband she'd bought for going to the zoo the next day and pulled out the bar of chocolate she'd gotten for Malakai and handed it to him before placing her bag down on the floor and standing up.
She grabbed the edge of the duvet and pulled, rolling him out of it, "Come on, I'm not here so you can hide from me." She huffed as she managed to pull the blanket out from under him and flattened it out before sitting down beside him, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I thought dating guys would be less of a head fuck," Malakai sighed as he sat up, snapping his chocolate into little squares, ."I don't know how I keep getting this shit so wrong."
"What did Rowan say?"
"He said he doesn't want to be collateral while I figure stuff out." He sighed as he sadly chewed on his chocolate.
"Well, if you're still figuring stuff out, it means you're not fully in it," she supposed, "that's not fair on him."
"Yeah, I know but I do really like him,"
"I know you do," she reached over and squeezed his shoulder, "How about we watch a movie to take your mind off of everything?" She suggested and he nodded, "yeah, okay."

The next day, Jack met up with her brother, Harper, Amerie, Darren and Quinni at the Zoo, wearing the only green top she owned beneath her leather jacket and a stupid $3 frog headband on her head. She also had a bit of green eyeliner on her waterline mixed in with her usual smudged black liner for a change.
Quinni stood at the front of the group, looking up at the zoo entrance before turning around to face the others, "What are we doing here?" She questioned, sounding confused.
"We just thought after everything you might need a day filled with your favourite things." Darren told her, "So, today is everything cute and fluffy. Nothing else. Agreed?"
"Agreed."
Darren smiled in satisfaction and turned to give Amerie a smug look, "And you wanted to take her to a hip hop class." They gloated.
"We were brainstorming."
"I'm gonna go get the tickets." Darren told them before walking off to the ticket office.
