The next day, determined to distract herself from her monumental fuck up, Jack returned to school despite her brother's protest. However, since he couldn't convince her to stay home, he made sure to not leave her alone for even a second from the moment she stepped out of her bedroom that morning.

Since it was the inauguration for school captain, they had no classes that morning and instead made their way into the courtyard where a bake sale was currently underway.

"So, thank you for just this marvellous spread of all these delicious cakes and treats." Woodsy spoke into a microphone at the front of the courtyard while everyone gathered around waiting to hear who their new captain was, "with the proceeds of bake sale, we will be able to provide our buddies in the woodwork department some wood. So that's good isn't it? Thank you, Jojo," Woodsy nodded to the woman who was the only one to have clapped, "Now, the comment you have all been waiting for. Who will he Hartley High's new school captain? Drumroll please."

Jack lightly patted her leg to contribute to the drumroll while she watched Woodsy take an envelope from Zoe beside her, "Right, and the winner is...Quinn Gallagher-Jones."

Ca$h whooped loudly, throwing his arms up in the air making Jack chuckle lightly as she brought her hands together to clap. They were the only ones happy for the girl though since everyone else was either confused or yelling out in protest due to the girl not being one of the candidates on the ticket.

"She wasn't even running!" She heard Spider yell from where he was standing with Voss at the other side of the yard.

"Okay. We'll take a few minutes..."

"She didn't even run!"

"...to sort this out." Woodsy spoke but she could barely be heard over the clamouring students, "okay, everyone. Can everyone just settle down, please?" Suddenly everyone fell silent at the sight of a lamington being thrown across the yard and landing directly on Woodsy's forehead, plastering her face with cream.

All eyes were on Voss who was the one to throw the dessert and he shrank back, trying to conceal the napkin he was holding which previously contained the chocolate lamington.

"Food fight!"

"No, not a food fight!" Woodsy yelled but it was too late and most of the students had already dashed to one of the tables filled with desserts and began to throw whatever they could grab at whoever was nearest.

As Jack was about to walk away, not really feeling up to joining in the chaos, she was suddenly stopped by her brother smearing a handful of cake across her cheek. She looked over at him with a glare while he laughed before grabbing a handful of cake from the nearest table and scrubbing it into his hair.

"That's an improvement on that stupid mullet for you,"

"Fuck you, Jackie," he laughed as he tried to wipe some of the cake out of his hair. She flipped him off before backing away before he could get her again, deciding she may as well stay.
