The elevator dinged and Madeline turned her head at the sound, seeing the famous Captain America and Winter Soldier step out.
"Hey, Pepper said you needed help with something?"
oh come on! she said she'd talk to them!
"Uh, yeah." She started, standing up from the floor. "I'm going shopping tomorrow, for furniture cause.. well." She gestured to the empty room they were in. "And she said that you guys wouldn't mind coming with me? To help carry stuff.." She trailed off and looked down, suddenly even more nervous around the two of them.
"Of course." Bucky said quietly, matching the volume of her voice.
"Yeah, we'd love to." Steve nodded and patted her shoulder. "Anything you need help with at the moment?"
"No, i'm about to go pick up Morgan."
"We're gonna have dinner together, the whole team, everyone." Steve started. "Would you like to join us?"
"I think i'd rather just stay up here tonight."
Steve nodded with a tight lipped smile and began walking towards the elevator.
Bucky lowered his head to her level. "I'll save you a seat and some pizza if you change your mind." He smiled, and she returned it with a smile and a little nod, watching as he followed steve into the elevator.
Maddy changed out of her mini skirt and heeled boots, and into a pair of black jeans and sambas, not bothering to change out of her black, juicy couture sweater.
She knew that at 5:30 on a weekday there was only one place her father would be: in his lab.
So she made her way down to ask to borrow a car.
"Dad?"
"Hey, kiddo, listen-"
"I don't wanna talk, i just need a car to pick up Morgan."
He nodded and a smile slowly grew onto his face.
"Come on," He lead her into the garage and went right to the corner to a car that was hidden by a cover. "I meant to give you this for your sixteenth, but you were at your moms, so-"
He pulled the cover off to reveal a black range rover.
"What do you think?"
Maddy rolled her eyes. Although buying her a car would be a big deal to most people, this was Tony Stark. He could buy any car he wanted, nothing could be too crazy or unreasonable for him.
But he chose this? This instead of a black 1960s convertible with a cherry red interior and leopard print details? The car that had been Madeleine's dream car since she was 8 years old and had seen one whilst on vacation with her mother?
It wasn't a secret what kind of car she wanted. It also wasn't a secret what kind of car she definitely didn't want, and this was the embodiment of it.
A huge vehicle, in all black, with no other colour, and worst of all, leather seats.
How was she supposed to sit comfortably in summer with black leather seats? They both burn her and make her legs stick to the seat.
She gave her father a disgusted look but still took the keys and got in with a groan - Morgan wasn't going to drive herself home, and Madeleine just didn't have the energy to argue.
As soon as she was out of the garage Tony dashed to find Pepper and tell her about the interaction, only to be met with her confirming that he was in the wrong.
"She's acting spoiled!"
"No, you're trying to act like father of the year - which, let's face it, you're not - maybe to Morgan, but not her."
"What am i supposed to do?"
"You go get to know her! Stop acting like there's nothing wrong with your relationship with her. You know nothing about her and you need to fix that Tony." Pepper said, giving him the reality check he needed.
He agreed to try and went back down to his lab, putting aside his broken suits, and getting started on trying to figure out ways to repair his relationship with his daughter - or rather, create one, seeing as they were never that close.
