Madeline walked out of the elevator and onto her floor. Hungover, as she had spent the day drinking after her friends left.
Luckily for her, no one was on her floor, and she was able to take some Advil and have a nap in peace.
The nap didn't last too long, she woke up a couple hours later to the sound of someone pacing around the main room.
She wanted to get up, but tiredness had overtaken her body and instead she just let out a very loud groan, which was her way of saying 'shut up' (well, she would've added a lot more curse words, but moving on..).
The pacing stopped, and suddenly there was two sets of footsteps rushing towards her door, along with what sounded like claws scattering across the floor.
"Maddy, oh thank god you're back." Pepper sighed, already somehow by her side with a bottle of water.
"Jesus Christ kid, where 've you been?" Tony sighed, though his was less relieved and more stressed.
"Out." She mumbled, pulling the blanket over her head.
Tony and Pepper shared a look, and another silent conversation, before Tony reluctantly walked out, Pepper following.
But once again, Madeline's nap was interrupted.
Though this time it was by something tiny taking a seat by her head and kind of chewing on her hair.
"What the fu- oh aren't you a cutie!" She squealed, immediately sitting up and pulling the tiny white kitten into her arms. "Oh you're so pretty, what's your name?" She whispered, trying to see the tag on its collar. "Alpine? That's a pretty name for a pretty little cat."
Whilst Maddy was having the of her life playing with this random kitten, Bucky, Sam, and Peter were scouring the tower in search of said kitten.
They got to Maddy's floor, not realising that she was back or that Tony and Pepper were there either.
So when they rushed in with a cat toy, a bag of treats, and a bag on catnip, along with redwing circling the ceiling, Tony and Pepper were a bit surprised. More confused than surprised but still.
"You seen Alpie?" Sam asked, a completely serious tone in his voice.
"Who?" Pepper replied while Tony held his head in his hands.
"Alpine. Mr Barnes cat." Peter said, excited to meet this missing cat.
"I think she followed us into Maddys room, go check in there."
The trio practically sprinted into the bedroom, only to see Alpine curled up, sleeping peacefully in the crook of Madeline's neck, while she absentmindedly scrolled on her phone, not even noticing the three of them standing in her room.
"Seriously? That cat won't even let me near it and I've been looking after her all week, Madeline's here for an hour and suddenly they're best friends? Screw this." Sam groaned, dropping the cat toy and walking out.
"Maddy, you're home!" Peter exclaimed a moment later.
"Yeah, I got back a couple hours ago." She mumbled in a croaky tone.
"Your voice okay, doll?" Bucky asked, approaching the bed, immediately followed by Peter who at this point just wanted to say hi to Alpine.
"Yeah, it's just been a lot of fun the past few days." She smiled, but her face dropped seconds later upon realising that she had lied to Bucky while she was high. "Sorry, I meant to come back, but I got a bit.. caught up in-"
"Don't worry. You're home now, and you're okay.. right?"
"Yeah, I just need a couple days rest." Maddy laughed, just as Alpine started to stir. "Hi cutie." She said in a high pitched voice, stroking its head with just one finger because she was so small.
"I see you've met my cat."
"Your cat? No offence, but you're the last person in this tower I'd expect to have a kitten like this."
The two talked about who in the tower would be likely to have which pets, meanwhile Alpine had made his way over to Peter, who was now sat on a beanbag he had dragged over to Maddy's bed.
Alpine almost fell of the end of the bed while trying to get to Peter, who thankfully caught her, and was finally able to meet the adorable kitten he'd been searching for all day with Sam and Bucky.
