"What the hell are you doing?" Tony whisper-yelled, as he saw Bucky step out the elevator, a sleeping Maddy in his arms.
"She fell asleep playing uno and watching tv, Natasha told me to bring her up." Bucky mumbled, walking past Tony and gently placing her on her bed and pulling the covers over her.
He went back into the room with Tony, shutting Madeline's bedroom door behind him. "What are you even doing up anyway?"
"Couldn't sleep. I felt bad about leaving my daughter alone earlier, but I guess she wasn't all alone." Tony said, an accusing tone present in his voice.
"Yeah, she wasn't alone. Me, Nat, Peter, Sam, Wanda, and Pietro kept her company."
Tony nodded. "Ah. I thought-"
"I know. You don't need to worry about her. She seems to be pretty grown up for a seventeen year old."
"Clearly I don't know her as well as I thought. Wait what do mean by that, Barnes?"
"I mean.. cigarettes, drinking, drugs.. all the stuff she got up to at boarding school. Not exactly childish activities."
Tony paused, a look of shock on his face as he realised that his daughter wasn't the model student her mother had always bragged about her being.
Though that was five years ago.
He hadn't really considered the effect her death had on Madeline.
Or what him practically abandoning her had done - besides completely wrecking their relationship.
Deciding he didn't want to learn anymore about this from him, he sat down and said "Goodnight Barnes."
Bucky left, and Tony stayed sat on one of the many boxes cluttering the room.
He had FRIDAY find out everything there was to know about his daughter, and wasn't too pleased to find that, when coming to New York, she was stopped in the airport by police dogs smelling cannabis on her.
She wasn't charged for anything, they didn't find any weed on her, but there was also many instances that her school had reported finding a multitude of hidden drinks and substances in her dorm room.
Tony didn't sleep that night. And he told Pepper everything he had found out first thing in the morning.
"Tony, that's an invasion of privacy. You should've given her time to tell us herself."
"It's important! What if she's addicted to cocaine?!"
"She's not." Pepper rolled her eyes and sighed before trying to reason with him. "Okay, so she's been smoking a little bit of weed, big deal. As far as we know she hasn't been high since she got here. That's almost a whole week, if she were addicted to anything, we would know by now."
"Fair enough." He reluctantly agreed. "I just don't know what to do."
"Let her handle this on her own. That's what she's used to. I know you want to be supportive but you don't wanna freak her out by suddenly revealing you know all of these details about her life that she hasn't told you."
After that, and many many more good points from his wife, Tony finally agreed to just leave it, and went to go and help Madeline with putting her furniture together.
