Two weeks sober and Madeline was finally thinking clearly.

She had got back into her old habits - good ones this time - and was reading books again, rewatching her favourite moves (and making Peter or Bucky watch with her), and spending as much time with Morgan as possible. She'd even been down to the lab to help her father on multiple occasions.

But there was still one thing bugging her.

Her crush on Bucky hadn't really gone anywhere as she had expected, and she was starting to think it was because of her little bender; maybe Bucky thought she was too much to handle.

So she was now determined to show that she was in fact, not overly high maintenance.

Though that was harder than it seemed.

Within the two weeks of sobriety, Maddy had been keeping herself very busy every day. She's got her hair done, dyed it jet black, and cut off some inches that were past her waist. Along with getting her nails done, and then redone twice, because they were first too short, then too long, then the wrong colour.

And that's not even including her near-daily shopping trips that she dragged Happy along to.

And she's now developed a new bad habit: smoking.

At first, Tony freaked out when he saw a cigarette in her hand, until she explained that it was a good way to stop herself from smoking any other substances.

Bucky didn't take it too badly, but still showed his lack of support in this activity.

"Hey doll." He called, joining her on the roof. "Thirsty?"

"Yeah, thanks." She smiled, eagerly taking the can of Diet Coke out of his hand.

"Another one? What's this your fifth of the day?" Bucky asked, leaning on the balcony with his back to the skyline, unlike Maddie who leaned on her forearms and stared out into the city.

"Third. And it's 10pm, so.. it's a.. improvement." She nodded.

"Yeah, it is." He agreed, staring down at her. "You coming inside soon? Natasha's ordering indian food but she doesn't wanna get you something you won't like."

"I'll just go get a burger. Ironically, I don't like Indian food." She chuckled, thinking back to all the times when she younger, and her mother and aunts would try to bribe her into eating her grandmothers dishes.

"Ironically?"

"Yeah.. my mum was Indian, you didn't know that?"

"No, I.."

"Don't worry, in your defence I am very pale.. get that from my dad." She laughed, and he nodded along with her.

Madeline took her final puffs and flicked the remains of her cigarette past the railing.

"You ready?"

"Yeah, let's go." She nodded, and for a moment Bucky had his hand on the small of her back, leading her the few steps towards the door.
