"What are you doing up here?" Bucky asked, upon seeing Madeline sitting on the roof of stark tower, cigarette in hand.
Hours had passed, her and Peter had looked after Morgan; they played uno and hide and seek, and watched movies. Peter went home and Morgan went to sleep.
"Thinking."
"About what, doll?"
"Everything. Stuff I haven't even told Tony- stuff I haven't told my dad yet."
"You wanna tell me? Maybe talking about it could help. That's what my therapist said." He mumbled the last sentence, taking a seat next to Maddy.
"No, I've kind of already told Bruce. One other person knowing is more than enough."
"Okay. Anything else you wanna talk about?"
"Kind of." Maddy paused, contemplating whether or not to talk to Bucky about what was on her mind.
She ended up talking for so long that she mentioned being pregnant.
"And, I just don't know how to feel. Like, I didn't want a baby. I drank and smoked and did drugs while pregnant because I didn't expect to be keeping it.. but now she's gone, and.."
"You miss her?" He asked, after Madeline had trailed off.
"Yeah. I'm not sure why. I just.. somehow I already loved her. I'd thought of names, I'd seen baby clothes in shops and thought "she would look cute in that" and now she's gone.. I'm kind of disappointed."
"Maddy," Bucky started. "One day, you're going to find the right guy, and you two are going to get married, and you're going to be pregnant again. And when that baby is born? You'll love it, more than anything else in the world. She may be gone, but you'll have another, who will probably live a much better life than a child bought up in a home with all of the avengers." He ended with a dry chuckle.
Maddy said nothing, but started at him for a moment.
Then she kissed him.
It was full of passion, she had felt an overwhelming crush on him since she arrived, and finally decided to act on it.
"Maddy.. I can taste the alcohol."
"Yeah, I had a couple mojitos, so what?"
"You're drunk."
"I'm not drunk!" Maddy gasped, but she was slurring her words, and sipping another drink as she spoke.
"Maddy.."
"I might be a bit drunk." She hiccuped, and the looked away: "Sorry."
"Why don't we get you to bed, huh?" He said softly, helping her up.
"Yeah, you can take me to bed!" She giggled, and Bucky rolled his eyes, hiding a smirk.
"Come on, doll."
He led her inside, careful to not let her trip on anything or fall.
"Alright, we're here-"
"Hungry." She groaned loudly.
"Hungry?"
"We should make carbonara!"
"I don't think either of us know how to make that.. you go change, I'll order food, okay?"
"Use.. dad's card.." she mumbled, stumbling over to her purse and throwing the credit card in Bucky's direction, before making her way into her room, leaning on the walls as she walked.
They ended up ordering from multiple restaurants, with Maddy snatching the phone and calling seven different restaurants.
And soon enough the food was delivered, and Madeline made Bucky watch how to lose a guy in ten days (her favourite movie) while they ate.
Bucky was surprised to find that Maddy, when drunk, had a bigger apex than him and Steve - two super soldiers - combined.
"So, even though I'm drunk, and I won't remember this conversation tomorrow.. is there really no change of anything happening between us?"
"Maddy,"
