Vio caressed L's head.
Such soft gesture soothed L's panic instantly. She felt safe with him. Was it because he was the developer of the system? Or maybe he was someone she used to know? Without any words, L leaned in, wrapping arms around his back tightly. Vio also caught her in his arms.
And in that embrace, the woman felt a deep, calming warmth that melted away the turmoil of past moments. Her tears flowed freely now, not from fear but from the sheer relief of finally being with Vio. Despite the tears streaming down her cheeks, L's expression was cold.
"I didn't die, right? Tell me I wasn't killed by Caleb Rowane" Death held no fear in her mind; instead, it was the specter of loss that troubled her. She was haunted not by the end itself, but by the dread of defeat. The thought of failing to fulfill her purpose was what truly tormented her.
"You are alive, and you are safe now. In my embrace, no fear can reach you" With a soft whisper, Vio hugged L. The world outside faded, leaving only the warmth of his embrace and the undeniable truth that, in his arms, she was alive and safe. How bizarre, she thought.
He's behaving tenderly toward her.
"I don't think we can continue this ten-million-dollar mission" Suddenly, the comfort was torn off by the shocking news. Causing the woman to pull back promptly with widened eyes. She held his arms, tilting her head, frowning to indicate the perplexity. "Why?"
L blinked; failing to comprehend. "Is it because I failed this third mission? But I was about to secure the money from somewhere else after abandoning Caleb Rowane. He's becoming a threat for me as you can see. I started with wrong move to approach him. I know my fault, but-"
The panic glowed in L's gaze. "No, relax. Please, relax" Vio, who seemed to have realized her passionate love for victory, attempted to calm her down. "Breathe" He guided her, embracing the serene expression. "Huuu, I am breathing" Nodding, L exhaled heavily.
"The reason we are unable to continue the mission is simply because of the system bug. It has interfered with the system, which has led you to hear things and see some people. You have no relation to why we have to stop the mission." Vio explained briefly.
"Wait"
Yet, L suddenly recalled something. Among the voices and faces, one thing stood out the most. "Lavanya, is that my name?" It was the moment Vio's eyes slightly widened, the first time he had expressed himself openly. "You remember?" His eyes shimmered with hope.
Hushing down L. How confusing. What did he mean by 'you remember'? She only asked out loud because that name scratched her brain as if she was familiar with it. But remember? Not at all. With the delighted expression he had, L made an assumption.
She definitely had some relationship with this man. It's just she couldn't remember. Lavanya. L repeated the name on her mind for a few times. The silence response and the persistent reaction dragged Vio's hopes, along with his facial expression. He quietly observed her.
L attempted to recall something related to the past and yet a migraine struck her rather than memories. "Ugh" L pressed her temples, scowling while squeezing eyes. This set Vio uneasy. "What's wrong?" Panicking him a bit. "Ugh, my head hurts" Vio sighed in realization.
Through clenched jaw, he murmured;
"Migraine again? So, you have yet to remember. But I have fixed the setting of the system already. Why is it that you cannot remember yet? This is taking longer than I thought" The words crawled into the woman's ears, igniting the curiosity. System? Setting?
The more she thought, the more it hurt in her head. "Are you okay?" Vio's softened gaze rested on L. He held her shoulder, tilting his head to observe her better. The agony was so awful to endure that the woman could not respond to the man. Vio frowned, thinking of a way.
