"I FUCKING SWEAR!"

Once again, the doorbell chimed that very night, which exasperated L. Why couldn't she sleep well? Was the system creator an official hater of sleep? "Coming!" Collecting the energy, L limped to the door while pressing her stomach. Was it a bad idea to skip meals?

Regret built up, and yet every emotion vanished when she opened the door. "Caleb?" Her brows wrinkled. An ounce of confusion sparked in her gaze. "May I?" Instead of showering the woman with tons of information, Caleb calmly asked for permission to enter.

"Oh, of course" L stepped aside. Her eyes then swayed to the outside. No one else was present. Just only his car was there. "Did you forget something or anything important to say?" Driven by the eagerness to find out the truth, L straight up questioned out loud.

"Did you receive a guest today?" Strangely, the man threw a query back after sitting on the sofa. "A guest? You are the only one besides the delivery man" L settled down. "By the delivery man, do you mean the one who recently picked your painting?" Caleb added a query,

And it was when L realized something.

"Yeah, he was a bit weird though. He asked about us and I think he was trying to confirm our relationship like a reporter" Over the statement, Caleb's soft gaze disappeared. A cold expression displayed. The silence spoke well enough for L to understand the situation.

"Was he the one who leaked the news?" Instead of beating around the bush, she asked. "You were aware of it?" A spark of perplexity rang in the man's tone as L chuckled in disbelief. "Didn't Finn call you? He even came to accuse me of being the one behind the news"

Although she mentioned it to prove, Caleb quieted down. His face twisted in fury. The sight was so obvious for L to pick on. "Caleb? Are you okay?" She softened her voice to gain the attention. "I am sorry on his behalf" To her surprise, Caleb quickly apologized.

His eyes embraced regret as a slight frown indicated his guilt. The terrifying expression was nowhere to be found now. "You don't have to be sorry. We sorted it out together. He figured out it could not be me" "You two were together the whole time?" Caleb tilted his head.

Hushing down the woman wholly.

Is this the burning smell of jealousy? Must be. "You are making it sound as if I am close to him. We only talked for a few minutes to clarify everything. He left right after. Nothing else" L shrugged. "Next time, call me if he approaches you" Caleb grabbed L's palm.

"Why?" As a woman who enjoyed seeing men go feral, L continued to push the button. The way her teary eyes innocently blinked to know the reason gripped the man's heart. Leaving her alone did not sound safe at all. He had to hold her—no, hide her.

"He can use intolerable words against you. What if he attempts to lay hands on you? He may be belligerent with words, but it is possible that his actions can be impudent sometimes" Caleb never admitted his jealousy; rather, he made Lilith see the world in negative way.

The gaslighting behavior was remarkably ironic, to the extent that L had to suppress the urge to laugh in amusement. Words cannot describe how much she loves the manipulators. "You are right. He tried to strangle me without any alarm" L played the role of victim, pouting.

"Strangle?"

Disbelief echoed in the tone as Caleb's eyes gleamed with flames of anger. Nobody had the right to touch Lilith, not even him. He had been gentle with her because she could break under his strength, yet that man even tried to strangle her. Unacceptable!

"I will talk to him later. I promise it will never happen again" A smile tugged on his lips. He caressed her hair with a tender gaze roaming all over her body, and he noticed a change. "Lilith, have you had dinner?" A strange question permeated the woman's ears. Meals?
