Flavio Isleigh's p.o.v

Have you ever lost meaning in your life?

My life commenced with a ray of bliss and a blessing from Atë, the goddess of misfortune. Initially, my world was filled with light. My parents were everything to me—my father, a proud military officer, and my mother, an engineering student, so full of dreams and ideas.

They cared for me in ways that made me feel safe and loved, as if nothing in the world could ever go wrong. And of course, there were disputes and debates among us. It was common to have conflicts in a family, as long as the family members eventually sorted them out.

However, things did not turn out the way I wanted. It was a snowy day, people rushing back to their houses in hope of avoiding the chilly weather, and my father standing in the living room with a dejected gaze, clutching the letter which was conveyed just now.

My mother stood there before him, arms folded, as she stared at him with a pair of teary eyes. As a six-year-old child, I failed to comprehend the situation. "Your son will be fatherless if you go!" Mom's shout startled me as I let out a gasp of fright. It was the first time she'd yelled.

I didn't know she could be so upset.

"Oh, dear. What are you doing here?" The eyes rested upon me. Beneath a frown, mom rushed toward me. "Mom, why are you crying?" I looked up at my mother, who was sniffling to hold the tears back. Her gleaming tears grasped my heart, pulling the worry out of chest.

"Vio, go back to your room. Mommy have to talk with your dad for a moment, okay? Be a good boy" Caterina Isleigh, the caring mother, wanted her son to be unaware of the truth, unlike the father, Lorenzo. "Vio, come here! I think you should be aware of this too"

My father beckoned, arousing my curiosity. I should have listened to my mother and walked away, yet I didn't. My steps headed toward him, leaving my mother behind. "Listen carefully, dad have to participate in an important task given by the government"

As a child, my father's reason did not make sense. The whole argument did not settle in my head. Why were they fighting over a mere topic? He's just going out as usual, or so I thought. "I don't know why you are making such a big fuss. Isn't he just going out like usual, mom?"

I turned to look at mom.

A gaze held genuine confusion while my mother's eyes glinted with sorrow. "Lorenzo Isleigh, what do you think you are doing?! He is just a child! Must you have to scare him like that?!" With furious steps, mom grabbed my arm, pulling me away. "I don't have a choice, Rina!"

And I caught a glimpse of sadness in my father's gaze. "Do you think I have a choice?! The government will not accept refusal! I only have one option and that is to attend!" "It is the hole of death you are jumping into! Can't you think of other ways?! I don't want to lose you!"

The shouts slowly crawled into my ears as things became to make sense. "Dad, are you not coming back?" I spoke up, looking up at my father who could not respond a word. He remained silent, gritting his teeth as he swallowed the unspoken words.

That silence infuriated me. "Why are you abandoning us?! Mom will be lonely if you leave! Can't you just stay?!" Tears welled up in my eyes, the voice cracking up due to built up sulkiness. "Even the child is begging you, Ren. Can't you stay?" Mom broke down in tears.

But my father stood firm, heartlessly.

He never shed a tear. I still wonder how he managed to keep tranquil in a heated argument. "I am sorry, Rina. I have to go. If I don't, they will hunt us. It is better to fall into the hole of death by myself rather than drag my family in" I should have known no words got through him.
