Hours of tense silence had passed, the family members sitting in stunned contemplation, trying to connect the puzzles and dots. But suddenly, the metal door creaked open, shattering the stillness.
The family's eyes widened in unison as a commotion erupted outside. A woman's voice echoed through the corridor, screaming and shouting,
"UNHAND US! I WILL CALL 999!"
A mocking retort followed, "Hah, like you'll get the chance to try."
A child's terrified wail pierced the air, "Mommy, what's going on?!?!"
The family's hearts sank as five men tossed two familiar figures into the room. Anne, Raymond's wife, and Yu Qing, their 11-year-old daughter, stumbled into the room, looking disheveled and frightened.
With that, the metal door slammed shut again, plunging the room into darkness and despair.
Raymond rushed to Anne and Yu Qing, embracing them tightly as if he'd never let them go.
His voice trembled with fear, "Dear, what's going on? What happened?! Tell me everything!"
Anne's eyes blazed with anger and tears as she recounted their ordeal.
"They came to our house, men in police uniforms. They said they had a warrant for our arrest. I thought it was some kind of mistake, but they were so convincing... They injected us with something, and the next thing I knew, we were waking up here."
Yu Qing, still shaken, clung to her mother, her eyes wide with fear. "I was so scared, Daddy. I didn't know what was happening."
Raymond's face twisted in anguish, his mind racing with the implications. "This is a nightmare. We have to get out of here. We have to find a way to escape."
As the three of them hugged each other tightly, trying to find comfort in their shared terror, the reality of their situation sank in.
Anne's eyes narrowed, as she pulled away from her husband's embrace, her voice firm. "How did you all end up here too?"
Catherine's expression was grim. "We were captured by the fake police officers at the Pan Pacific Hotel. We were trying to find clues about Karen's disappearance."
Uncle Stanley nodded in agreement. "The same thing happened to me. I was outside, looking for supplies. And they found me. They injected me with a syringe, and...and I woke up here."
Anne's eyes scanned the room, her voice laced with desperation. "Wait! Where is Yu Fang?
Nathan's eyes dropped, his voice hesitant. "I.... was with Yu Fang...and then I got knocked out...and..."
Anne's anger boiled over. "WHERE IS YU FANG?!?!?! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HER, NATHAN! WHERE IS SHE NOW?"
The room fell silent, the weight of Anne's words hanging in the air. Nathan's eyes met Anne's, filled with a mix of fear and guilt. He knew he had failed to protect Yu Fang, and now she was gone.
He stammered, "I-I don't know... I was knocked out... The last thing I heard was Yu Fang's screams... in the Pan Pacific hotel lobby..."
Anne's voice rose to a hysterical pitch, "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HER! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KEEP HER SAFE!"
Meng Qi stepped forward, trying to calm Anne down, but she shook her off.
"No, no, no... We have to find Yu Fang. We have to get out of here."
The family's desperation reached a boiling point as they realized the true extent of their predicament.
They were trapped, separated, and at the mercy of their captors. The screams of Yu Fang still echoed in Nathan's mind, a haunting reminder of their helplessness........
