Nathan stood at a distance, his eyes fixed on the Tans as they huddled together, their worried voices carrying on the wind.

He knew better than to approach them, not now, not when emotions were running high and injuries were still fresh.

His own family, the Lims, were a mess. His mother, Catherine, leaned on him.

His sister, Natalie, clutched her broken glasses, her eyes red and swollen.

Nathan's own face throbbed with pain, but he ignored it, focusing on the Tans.

Richard, Karen's father, paced back and forth, his phone clutched in his hand.

Deborah, Karen's mother, tried to calm him down, but her own voice was laced with worry.

Meng Qi, Karen's grandmother, sat on a nearby bench, her eyes closed, her face etched with concern.

Raymond and Anne, Karen's uncle and aunt, stood off to the side, their faces grim.

Nathan knew he should feel guilty, but he couldn't muster up the emotion. He was too busy trying to process everything that had happened. The fight and the accusations. It was all too much.

As he watched, Richard's voice rose, his words carrying across the distance. "We have to find her! We can't just sit here and do nothing!"

Nathan felt a pang of guilt then, but it was quickly replaced by anger. They had no right to be so worried, not after what they had done. He turned away, focusing on his own family.

"Mom, are you okay?" he asked, his voice low.

His mother nodded, wincing in pain. "I'll be fine, Nathan. Just get me home."

Then she looked up at him, her eyes pleading. "Nathan, what's going to happen? Where's Karen?"

Nathan hesitated, unsure of what to say. But before he could answer, Raymond approached them, his face grim.

"Nathan, we need to talk," he said, his voice low.

Nathan steeled himself, wondering what was coming next......
