Deborah's hand hovered in mid-air, poised to strike Catherine, but Nathan's swift intervention stayed her motion.
"Mrs. Tan, no!" Nathan exclaimed, his voice firm but gentle.
As Nathan restrained Deborah's hand, Natalie's demeanor transformed. Her lawyerly instincts took hold, and she began to reason with Deborah in a calm, measured tone.
"Mrs. Tan, think about it," Natalie said, her voice soothing. "The power outage started four days ago, and we've been stuck here without electricity or communication since then. It's impossible for us to have written that letter. We've been isolated, just like you."
Natalie took a step closer to Deborah, her eyes locked on hers. "Plus, consider the timing. The letter arrived today, four days after the power outage began. It's not feasible for us to have written and sent it in such a short timeframe, especially under these circumstances."
Deborah's anger slowly gave way to curiosity as Natalie's logical explanation sank in. Nathan released Deborah's hand, and she lowered it, her gaze fixed on Natalie.
"Go on," Deborah said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Natalie continued, "I think we're dealing with someone else entirely. Someone who wants to create tension between our families. We need to work together to uncover the truth."
Deborah raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. "Does this have anything to do with Karen going missing?"
Natalie nodded solemnly. "Yes, I believe it does. Whoever wrote that letter is trying to create a rift between our families, and Karen's disappearance is likely connected."
Nathan's eyes narrowed. "Do you think the power outage was a coincidence?"
Natalie hesitated, her lawyerly instincts on high alert. "Something tells me it's not a coincidence. The timing is too convenient."
Catherine chimed in, "But the power outage affected the entire city of Singapore. How could it be related to our families' situation?"
The four of them began discussing, their voices overlapping as they explored the possibilities.
"Maybe it was a deliberate act to isolate us," Nathan suggested.
"But why target the entire city?" Deborah countered.
"Perhaps it was a diversion," Natalie mused. "A way to distract us while something else is happening."
Catherine's eyes widened. "Like what?"
Natalie's expression turned grim. "I don't know, but I think we need to find out."
Deborah sighed heavily, her shoulders sagging under the weight of her family's anger and suspicion.
"My entire family is furious with the Lims," she admitted, shaking her head. "My husband, Richard Tan, is livid. He's accusing your family of trying to destroy our manufacturing business and...and being involved in Karen's disappearance."
Natalie's expression turned sympathetic. "I understand why they would think that, but we need to find a way to convince them that we're not behind this."
Deborah's eyes clouded over. "It's hard to reason with them when emotions are running so high. They're hurt and scared, and they want someone to blame."
Catherine nodded understandingly. "We need to work together to uncover the truth and clear our names. Can you help us talk to your family and get them to listen?"
Deborah hesitated, then nodded. "I'll try. But it won't be easy."
Natalie reached out and placed a comforting hand on Deborah's arm, her touch warm and reassuring. "We'll figure this out together, Mrs. Tan. We'll get to the bottom of this and clear our names. I promise."
Deborah looked up, her eyes welling up with tears. "Thank you, Natalie. Just knowing that you're willing to work with me...it means a lot."
Natalie smiled softly. "We're in this together, Mrs. Tan. We'll support each other and find a way forward."
Catherine nodded in agreement. "We'll work together to uncover the truth and bring Karen home safely."
Nathan added, "And we'll clear our family's name and restore our reputation."
Deborah took a deep breath, feeling a sense of hope and determination. "Let's do it. Let's work together and find out what's really going on."
Nathan's eyes locked onto Deborah's as he held out the black bow, its sleek surface gleaming in the dim light.
" This belonged to Karen," he said, his voice low and measured. "She dropped it during the altercation at the Pan Pacific. I think it's time you saw it."
Deborah's eyes widened as she took the black bow from Nathan, her mind racing back to the chaotic scene at the Pan Pacific. She remembered Richard's furious face, his fist clenched as he punched Nathan, accusing him of harming Karen.
"Richard saw this bow," Deborah said, her voice laced with a mix of emotions. "He thought you were involved in Karen's disappearance, Nathan. He punched you because of it."
Nathan's expression turned somber, his eyes clouding over with the memory. "I know. I tried to tell him it wasn't what he thought, but he wouldn't listen."
Deborah's gaze fell back to the bow, her thoughts whirling. "This bow could be the key to finding Karen. But we need to convince Richard to listen, to work with us instead of against us."
Natalie nodded in agreement. "We need to show him that we're on the same side, that we all want to find Karen and bring her home safely."
Catherine added, "And we need to do it before it's too late."
