Nathan's eyes slowly fluttered open, his gaze blurry from the vivid dream he had just had.
The nurse's gentle shaking brought him back to reality, and he sat up with a start. Karen still lay unconscious on the bed, her peaceful face a stark contrast to the turmoil Nathan felt inside.
"Visiting hours are over, Mr. Lim," the nurse said softly, her eyes sympathetic.
Nathan nodded, his mind still reeling from the dream. He looked towards the doorway and saw his sister, Natalie, waiting for him outside, her eyes fixed on her phone. He sighed, feeling a sense of resignation wash over him.
As he walked towards Natalie, she looked up and said. "Hey, Nate. Ready to head home?"
Nathan nodded, and together they walked out of the hospital, the cool evening air a welcome respite from the stifling atmosphere of the ward. The chauffeur-driven car waited for them, its engine purring softly.
As they drove away from the hospital, Nathan gazed out the window, his thoughts still with Karen, wondering when she would wake up and what the future held for them. The darkness of the night seemed to mirror the uncertainty in his heart.......
