As they fled the room, the sound of Jason's enraged voice echoed behind them.
"YOU LITTLE SHIT STABBED ME IN THE DICK!" he bellowed, his pain and humiliation evident in every word.
Yu Fang's giggles filled the hallway, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"I got him good, Uncle Stanley! I got him good!" she exclaimed, her voice full of pride.
Uncle Stanley's grip on her hand tightened as they hastened their pace. "Not now, Yu Fang. We need to get out of here, fast!" he urged, his eyes fixed on the smoke-filled hallway ahead.
Nathan followed close behind, Karen's limp body bouncing in his arms. He winced, his shoulder throbbing in time with his footsteps, but a hint of a smile played on his lips at Jason's enraged outburst.
As they turned a corner, the sound of crackling flames grew louder, and the air thickened with smoke. The group quickened their pace, desperate to escape the inferno that was engulfing the building.
"We're almost there!" Uncle Stanley shouted above the din of the fire. "Keep going!"
They ran down the stairs, their footsteps echoing through the smoke-filled hallway. As they reached the bottom, they met up with Catherine and Natalie, who were frantically waiting for them.
"Oh, you're all safe... and Karen!" Catherine exclaimed, her eyes widening with relief as she took in the sight of Karen's limp body in Nathan's arms.
Nathan tried to explain, "Mom-"
But Catherine's gaze was drawn to his shoulder, where a crimson stain was spreading rapidly.
"Nathan, what happened?!?!" she cried, alarm etched on her face.
Natalie grasped her mother's arm, her voice laced with desperation.
"Mom, we have to go - now!" she urged, as the fire crackled ominously behind them.
Uncle Stanley nodded in agreement, his eyes darting anxiously down the hallway.
"Move, move, move!" he bellowed, pushing Yu Fang forward with a sense of urgency.
With that, they made a frantic dash for the exit, the flames licking at their heels like a living entity.
The heat was intense, the smoke choking, but they pressed on, driven by the instinct to survive.......
