The clock struck 12am, signaling the start of a new year - 2026. Fireworks lit up the night sky outside Singapore General Hospital, casting a kaleidoscope of colors on the walls of Karen's hospital room. Nathan sat beside her bed, his eyes fixed on her peaceful face. She lay unconscious, a stark contrast to the vibrant celebrations outside.
Catherine and Meng Qi had been discharged a few days ago, but Karen's recovery was taking longer than expected. Nathan's heart ached with every passing day, his longing for her to wake up growing stronger.
As the fireworks reached their crescendo, Nathan gently kissed Karen's forehead, his lips brushing against her soft skin. He whispered a silent prayer, hoping that this new year would bring her back to him.
"Happy New Year, my love," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the din of the celebrations outside.
The machines beeping around them seemed to echo the rhythm of Nathan's heart, a steady reminder of the fragile life that hung in the balance. He held her hand, his fingers intertwined with hers, willing her to squeeze back, to show some sign of awakening.
But Karen remained still, lost in a world beyond their own. Nathan's eyes welled up with tears as he gazed at her, his heart heavy with the uncertainty of their future together.
As the last firework fizzled out, Nathan sat back, his eyes never leaving Karen's face. He knew that this new year would bring its own set of challenges, but he was ready to face them head-on, as long as Karen was by his side.......
