"It's not the machine...It's the pilots."
Herc rested his hand on Koda's shoulder, the young six year old looked up at Striker Eureka in awe as she held a small grizzly bear teddy in her hands as her daisy covered pyjamas warmed her tired frame.
Having woken from a nightmare, Koda had woken Herc up, asking for help. The older man took her out for a small walk, hoping to ease her nerves, only she was still jumpy, even as he carried her down the corridors towards the Mark V Jaeger.
Once they reached the large, surprisingly empty corridor where more than seven Jaegers could be stored, Herc had set Koda down, letting her inspect the large machine before her.
"But what happens if the bad thoughts find you?" She asked, looking up at the older man, brows raised nervously.
"Well that's why me an Chuck pilot together, so we don't move out of alignment."
Koda nodded, but a frown pulled at her lips, "But you guys always fight...It's scary."
Kneeling down, Herc gently tucked a stray piece of hair behind the girl's ear, "We don't mean to scare you kiddo, sometimes...we just don't agree on things, and that's okay."
"Okay," She hugged her teddy close to her chest, "But what if you don't come back?"
"We will, we'll always come back."
"Promise?"
"Sure kid..."
"There are things you can't fight," Koda paced slowly, looking at Jack and Miko. The two stood tall, a glint of anxiety flashed in their eyes before fading as they nodded in understanding, "Acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you have to get out of the way," She halted in front of the two, "But when you're in a Jaeger, suddenly, you can fight the hurricane. You can win..."
Miko nodded enthusiastically while Jack remained still. Koda looked between the two, "Running a Jaeger isn't simply just get in and go. You two need to enter that machine as one, work together. You will enter Gipsy, anything you hold against each other will dissipate, your focus must remain on teamwork. You will enter with a clear mind and a sole focus, to work as one...Do you understand?"
"Yes!" Miko exclaimed, nearly bouncing out of her skin.
Jack hit her side gently, quieting her down, "Yes ma'am."
Pulling two booklets from behind the tablet in her hand, she handed one to each of the teenagers, "Good, get to work and see me when you're finished. This is everything you need to know about Gipsy, her strengths, weaknesses, weaponry, everything."
Their shoulders fell upon being handed the booklets. Jack tugged at Miko's hand, "Come on."
Wandering over to the Jaeger, Koda pulled herself into the con-pod, grabbing the spare drivesuit in the small storage unit on the left side of the control room. She took the helmet off from the drivesuit and set the rest aside, hooking it up on the left control bay before doing the same with her own suit.
