Kaiya sat comfortably on the couch in the living room of her aunt's house, the familiar sound of button mashing filling the room as she and her younger cousin, Akira, played Mortal Kombat on the game console. The air was light and filled with laughter, Akira's competitive spirit flaring up every time she lost a match.

- "Of course you're the best at a fighting game," Akira grumbled, rolling her eyes as her character was defeated once again. "After all, you're a top-tier delinquent," she added with a smirk, trying to mask her frustration with playful banter. "I wish you'd teach me how to fight too!"

Kaiya chuckled, shaking her head.

- "May isn't okay with that, Akira, remember? We've talked about this before." She paused the game, turning to face her cousin more seriously. "But you know what? If you promise not to tell May, and if you swear to me that you'll never start a fight, I'll teach you a thing or two. Maybe how to throw a punch that could actually break someone's nose or how to deliver a really solid kick."

Akira's eyes lit up with excitement, but Kaiya's expression remained stern as she continued.

- "But listen to me very carefully: if you're ever in a situation where you might need to use those skills, you run like hell. You avoid conflict at all costs. It might seem exciting, but trust me, it's not..." Her voice trailed off as she recalled the brutal events surrounding Pah's friend and his girlfriend, a shadow passing over her usually bright demeanor.

Akira, however, was too thrilled by the prospect of learning to fight to notice the shift in Kaiya's mood.

- "I promise, Kaiya! I won't tell mom, and I'll never start a fight. I swear!" she exclaimed, her enthusiasm bubbling over.

- "Alright then," Kaiya said with a small smile, her serious expression softening. "Let's go to my room."

The two of them headed upstairs, the anticipation almost palpable as they entered Kaiya's room. It was a space filled with memories—pictures on the walls, a few mementos from her past, and a neatly made bed. Kaiya moved aside a few items to clear a space on the floor, then positioned herself opposite Akira.

- "Okay," Kaiya began, "the first thing you need to know about throwing a punch is how to use your whole body to generate force. It's not just about your arm; it's about your stance, your core, everything."

Akira listened intently as Kaiya demonstrated, her movements precise and controlled.

- "Oh my god! This is so cool!" Akira squeaked, barely able to contain her excitement.

Kaiya smiled, pleased with her cousin's enthusiasm. She grabbed a pillow from her bed and held it up as makeshift padding.

- "Now, I want you to punch this," she instructed, bracing herself.

Akira hesitated for a moment, looking at Kaiya uncertainly.

- "Are you sure?" she asked, her voice wavering slightly.

Kaiya's expression grew serious again, her voice calm but firm.

- "Akira, I've had my skull cracked open. I'm used to fights. Trust me, I can handle it." The gravity in her voice made Akira shiver for a moment, the weight of Kaiya's experience suddenly very real.

Taking a deep breath, Akira positioned herself as Kaiya had taught her. She drew back her fist and swung forward with determination—but her punch missed the pillow entirely, sending her off balance.

Kaiya chuckled softly, catching Akira before she could stumble.

- "Not bad for a first try," she said encouragingly, her tone lightening. "Let's work on your aim."
