The next day, Kaiya woke up around midday, the sun already high in the sky, its golden rays spilling into Keisuke's room and casting warm patterns on the floor. She struggled to open her eyes, which were swollen and tender from the tears she had shed the night before. For a moment, she was disoriented. The room felt foreign, with its minimalist decor and the faint scent of sandalwood lingering in the air, so different from her own.

Her mind was hazy, and she almost forgot the events of the previous night. The soft rustling of papers and the steady scratch of a pen reached her ears, slowly bringing her back to reality. Before she fully opened her eyes, the memories flooded back, and she remembered where she was.

Keisuke was seated at his MDF desk, bathed in the soft light, engrossed in writing a letter. His brows were furrowed in concentration, and the silence was punctuated only by the occasional sigh as he contemplated his words. When he noticed the change in her breathing, a subtle shift that indicated she was waking, he turned to her, his expression softening with concern.

He looked into her eyes, gauging her state. She seemed better than last night, the desperate look in her eyes having dissipated for the moment, replaced by a hint of panic. Her breathing was steadier, and the tension in her shoulders had lessened.

- "Did you sleep well?" he asked gently, moving to sit next to the bed, his voice filled with concern.

- "Mmm... yeah..." she whispered, still groggy and trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. Her mind was slowly catching up with her surroundings. Suddenly, she remembered her phone. "Shit, my phone," she exclaimed, her eyes widening as she began to search around frantically.

Keisuke, noticing her distress, reached over to the nightstand and handed her the phone, which had been lying next to a small, intricately carved lamp.

- "Here," he said softly.

- "I think Mai went ballistic with worry since I was not home," she muttered, taking the phone from him and quickly scanning through her notifications. Her fingers trembled slightly.

The screen was filled with numerous messages from Mai, a mix of concern and frustration evident in the texts, along with several missed calls. The notifications seemed never-ending, each one adding to the weight of guilt and worry that settled on her shoulders.

Keisuke watched her closely, his eyes reflecting a mixture of empathy and unease.

- "Is everything alright?" he asked, his voice breaking the silence that had fallen between them.

Kaiya nodded slowly, though her eyes betrayed the anxiety she felt.

- "Yeah, just... a lot to catch up on," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper as she continued to read the messages. "I have to call Mai or at least send her a message..." she said, her voice trailing off, still not ready to fully engage with the outside world. "I'll just send her a message."

She began typing, her fingers moving slowly over the screen:

"Mai, I'm sorry. I slept at Keisuke's place last night. I didn't plan to; it just happened. I think the tiredness caught up to me after so many sleepless nights."

She paused, rereading the message before hitting send. Her shoulders slumped slightly, a mixture of relief and apprehension washing over her as she waited for Mai's response.

- "So... do you plan on staying in my bed all day?" Keisuke asked, a playful smile dancing on his lips as he tried to lighten the mood.

At that moment, Kaiya realized she had slept in his bed. The warmth of the blankets and the familiar scent of Keisuke's smell still lingered around her. Knowing Keisuke, he would never have shared the bed with her without her consent, which meant he had likely slept on the floor. Her heart ached at the thought of him sacrificing his comfort for her. Then she remembered Ryoko, Keisuke's mother, and worried that her presence might have disturbed her or at least been an inconvenience.
