As Takemichi burst into the room, the weight of his emotions was palpable, filling the once calm space with a chaotic energy. Kaiya and Chifuyu, both absorbed in their own activities, looked up, immediately sensing that something was terribly wrong. The distress on Takemichi's face, combined with the way he slammed the door open, sent a jolt of unease through the room.
- "What's up, Takemitchy?" Chifuyu asked casually, though his eyes flickered with concern. His tone was relaxed, but deep down, Chifuyu always had an instinct for when things were about to get serious. Takemichi's face told him more than words could.
Kaiya, who had been lost in the pages of her anatomy book, initially glanced at Takemichi without much thought.
When Takemichi finally choked out:
- "I shook future Mikey-kun's hand," Kaiya's heart sank. Her breath caught in her throat, and she forced herself to look away from her book, her body suddenly tense. Fear crept into her eyes, and it was a fear she hadn't felt in a long time. She had long suspected that Mikey's descent into darkness was inevitable, but hearing it confirmed sent a cold shiver down her spine.
Chifuyu, ever the reliable friend, was quicker to ask the obvious question:
- "Wait... are you Takemitchy from the future?" His voice was steady, but the concern was evident. The room felt heavy, like the air had thickened with the gravity of the situation.
- "And I came back..." Takemichi's voice broke, his tears flowing uncontrollably. The sheer weight of his emotions was crushing, and it was clear that his heart was burdened with something unspeakable.
Kaiya, always the calm in a storm, rose from her seat, her mind racing to process the implications. She closed the door gently, as if trying to contain the intensity of the moment within the four walls of the room. With a quiet yet firm touch, she placed her hand on Takemichi's shoulder, guiding him closer to her and Chifuyu. Despite the calm in her actions, her heart was pounding. The look in Takemichi's eyes was haunting—he had seen things, lived through things that no one should have to endure.
- "What happened, Takemichi?" Kaiya's voice, though filled with concern, was steady. But inside, fear gnawed at her. She had always known that Mikey's darkness was a ticking time bomb, but hearing Takemichi speak of Bonten—of Mikey's desire to end it all—was a reality she wasn't ready to face. Her connection to Mikey had always been complicated, filled with both loyalty and sorrow, and now it seemed those emotions were about to spiral into something far darker.
As Takemichi recounted the events of Bonten, his voice cracking under the weight of what he had seen, Kaiya felt her throat tighten. The thought of Mikey standing at the edge of despair, willing to kill not only Takemichi but also himself, made her chest ache. She had seen Mikey's slow descent into darkness, but to hear that he had reached a point where he was ready to die... it was almost too much to bear.
Chifuyu, though visibly shaken, tried to remain composed. His voice, though steady, carried a deep sadness.
- "If Mikey-kun's the trigger, then that means you won't be able to return to the future so easily anymore." His words hung in the air, the realization sinking in.
Takemichi, still teary-eyed, nodded.
- "That's right! What's going on with Mikey-kun right now?" His voice was filled with desperation, as if finding out about Mikey in the present could somehow prevent the future he had just witnessed.
Kaiya's phone buzzed, pulling her momentarily out of her swirling thoughts. She glanced down, reading the message with a mix of relief and frustration:
"Winner: Kanto Manji
Deaths: 0
Wounded: enough
No issues encountered by our team. No conflicts with Manjiro Sano or his men."
