Chapter Twenty-Four
Nightmare

I had no idea that something I used to be afraid of would now astound me. The heat and blaze of it aroused feelings that I never would have imagined having. The flames brighten the darkness, and the sound it make as it burns everything in its path is like a melodic instrument in my ears.

Every path the flames crossed left me in awe. Fire really burns brightest in the darkness.

As I walked towards the pool wearing my red high-waist bikini, I went over to the Bluetooth speaker that was just at the side and blasted it loudly before I got on the inflatable floating bed in the pool and began reading.

Wala pang limang minuto ay nakarinig na ako ng mga yabag at boses. Wala si Mister Valdigierro, pati na sila Sir Hildegard, Stein at ang dalawang mananakop nilang kasama. There were only a few bodyguards around and they made an attempt to put out the fire, but it had already spread and burnt half of the residence.

I later on could hear more commotion and the noise coming from the cars but that's not enough to keep my attention away from reading. Sincerity be damned, I kind of enjoy the chaos that was unfolding around me that night.

"What the actual fuck is happening?" Dumagundong ang boses ni Chen habang nakatingin sa kabahayan.

Kasunod lang ng lalaki sila Lazslo at Stein.

"The audacity! Who in the world, in their right mind, would be brave enough to commit such a thing? Who dares to do this in the territory owned by a powerful man?" Stein growls, his teeth clenching together.

"And I believe everyone was already aware of who had done this." With admiration gleaming in his eyes, Lazslo spoke. "There's our perpetrator. The culprit, dressed in her bloody red bikini is enjoying the scene in front of her as though it were a movie."

Sabay-sabay ang mga lalaking bumaling sa gawi ko. Matamis naman akong ngumiti habang iwinagayway ang kamay.

"Enjoying the show, boys?" I asked happily.

"Do you really wanna die?"

Ngumuso ako. "If only it would save me from having to hear you talk, Chen. Then maybe yeah."

Humalakhak sila, mahina namang nagmura ito.

Umiiling na bumuntong-hininga si Stein. "Just because you're too foolish to recognise what was wrong doesn't mean you're free of the consequences."

"How uncharacteristically thoughtful of you."

"You are insufferable."

Napahawak ako sa dibdib, umarte na parang nagdaramdam. "That must be the sweetest word I've heard from you. How cute!"

"I love how you never take anything seriously." With almost menacing eyes, Lazslo snapped.

"Oh! Actually, I did. Nasa harap n'yo na ang patunay. And well, life's too short to be serious all the time, right? I mean, never take life seriously because no one ever comes out alive anyway."

Aktong lalapitan sana ako ni Chen pero agad siyang nahawakan ni Lazslo sa braso para pigilan.

"Let go of my hand, dickhead. Can't you see? She's threatening us. No fucks can threaten us without suffering. I'm going to kill that motherfucking whore."

"She's The Boss problem. You know we're not allowed to touch her."

"Lazslo is right, Chen. I understand how you're feeling and I wish I could hurt her too. Fuck! I'm thirsty for her blood and cries too." May talim na sinipat ako ni Stein. "But we all are aware of the first rule of the boss. And don't forget that the mask is still in her possession."
