*** Randheera ***

I knocked on the door excitedly, waiting for my wife to open the door but to my surprise it was someone else.

"Son, I told you it will...." my mother in law spoke as she opened the door without realizing who it was but paused in fear the moment she looked at me.

"Were you expecting someone else ma'am?" I asked letting go of the momentary happiness the word 'son' gave my mind.

"No...no general sir..." she immediately looked down in fear.

Why is she lying? I hate liars!

Yet I chose to not press on it.

"Where's Yashu?" I asked.

"Evaraina choosuntara egire nakhstranni (Did anyone ever see a flying star?)....eduristhe ega badi pora nene aa chitranni (Wouldn't they jump in joy if they see one? yes that is me, I am the flying star).... " our conversation was interrupted by Yashu jumping and twirling herself into the living room but stopped when she saw me, froze, and blinked her eyes twice.

"And somehow we are the self obsessed ones, huh?" I commented.

"Sir....it's not her fault," her mother immediately spoke to get my attention despite being scared herself, "It's probably my presence that triggered the little girl inside her."

So this is what having a mother is like? Having someone stand up for you even if it means they are risking their own wellbeing?

"It did not trigger the inner child ma'am," I said with my eyes still on my wife, "It triggered the flying star and who doesn't wish to witness a flying star. It's a symbol of hope, isn't it?"

Yashu's mother remained silent, but I could sense her relaxing while Yashu continued to look at me, her crunched eyebrows relaxing a little.

"If I could have your permission," I said turning my attention back to her mother, "I wish to take her out for a while."

"Of course, sir," her mother replied, surprised as to why I even asked her permission and meanwhile I heard a playful voice from the corridors.

"Aunty you promised me vadas, when I am getting my vada-" Vinod paused when he looked at me.

"Gr-greetings sir," he said completely taken aback by my untimely presence.

"Is he the son you were referring to?" I asked Yashu's mother.

She remained silent.

"Are you the son she was referring to?" I asked turning back to my soldier.

"I don't know the context but it's highly likely, sir," VInod hesitantly replied.

"Aren't you supossed to be at duty now?" I asked.

"I..." Vinod hesitated, "My duty is at the soldier's compund sir," he stated as if that should explain his carefree behaviour.

"So it's okay to not take the duty seriously?" I asked and he fell silent.

"Are the vadas done, Yashu?" I asked turning towards.

"Huh?" Yashu asked at the sudden question but nodded after taking a second to process.

"Pack some for your deversa," I said and she immediately went in and came back with a box.
