"Michael! Can we do something!? This is boring!" I complained. Michael and I were in his man cave, Michael playing video games, me watching. My arms were wrapped around his neck, hugging him from behind. My face was right next to his, watching the TV.

He paused his game, turning his head towards me abruptly. I jumped back, our faces nearly hitting each other.

"What do you want to do?" Michael's tone sounded a little harsh.

"I don't know..." I said, my voice quiet as I cowered back a little. "Can we watch a movie?" My voice stayed at the quiet level.

"Ugh, what movie?" Michael rolled his eyes, turning off his gaming counsel and switching it to regular TV.

"The Fault in Our Stars?"

"Fine," Michael sighed, leaning back on the sofa. I smiled widely, cuddling up to him as he searched for the movie. Before I got all comfortable on Michael, I sat up, giving him a small kiss on the cheek.

As I settled back down I noticed Michael trying to hide a blush. Michael's arm was around me, his hand resting gently on my waist. I watched as the opening screen came up.

We didn't get far into the movie, just to the part where Hazel bumped into Augustus for the first time, before Michael's mum came in.

"What're you kids doing?" Mrs. Clifford smiled. Michael paused the movie, a little annoyed.

"Watching The Fault in Our Stars," I sat up a little, smiling back at her.

"Isn't that the one movie about cancer? And isn't it a chick flick?" Mrs. Clifford asked. I nodded. "I'm surprised you got Michael to sit down with you and watch it. Anyways, do you guys want anything?"

"Actually, Mum, can we have some popcorn?" Michael asked sweetly. Mrs. Clifford agreed right away.

"Thank you Mrs. Clifford."

"Oh, Honey, please call me Karen, or Mum. Something other than Mrs. Clifford, it makes me feel old," Karen laughed. I smiled at her, nodding. It took me by surprise when she said to call her Mum. Karen walked out of the room, closing the door.

"My mum always wanted a daughter, you're finally her chance," Michael said quietly, fiddling with his bracelets. That made me instantly reach for mine, making sure the one Michael gave me was still on my wrist. I let out a small breath when I felt it brush against my finger tips.

I didn't know how to reply to Michael and he knew that so he just played the movie. I lied my head back on him, getting comfortable.

. . .

We were almost done with the popcorn when the news hit Hazel. The tears were falling down my cheeks fast. I pushed the popcorn away from us and sat up. I looked over to Michael, tears falling down his cheeks. He quickly wiped them off, trying to look like he wasn't crying. I let out a little giggle. I put one leg on the other side of Michael so I was now straddling him. I wrapped my arms around his neck tightly, his going around my waist. His forehead rested on my shoulder as I buried my face into the crook of his neck.

"Why him? Why not Isaac? He loved her and she loved him!" Michael started to cry again.

"Michael," I pulled away, sniffling. "This was just a movie, none of this is true," I said as I stared into his eyes.

"You don't know that, this could explain someone's life perfectly! Why do people have to get cancer?" Michael's voice sounded small as he looked away from me and down to our laps.

"Michael," I grabbed his face in my hand, making him look up at me, "everything happens for a reason." Michael just nodded slowly.

"What's the reason for you dating Luke then," Michael said under his breath. His eyes widened at his words as I cocked my head to the side, very confused.
