Bad decisions

Damon, Stefan and I stood at the entrance to the tomb as we waited for Bonnie and Jeremy to show up. I lent against the broken stone wall and pulled my bottom lip between my teeth nervously. A lot could go wrong with this plan, even if we do get the moonstone, nobody can guarantee that the spell can be removed.

Bonnie came striding quickly out of the woods with her grimoire clutched in her hands. But there was no sign of Jeremy. That immediately sent warning bells in my mind, I would have thought he would be at Bonnie's heels from how worried he was about this plan.

"Sorry I'm late. I had to grab the Grimoire from home." Bonnie said

"Jeremy couldn't take the pressure, huh?" Damon asked

"He said he'd be here." Bonnie stated with a twinge of concern. Stefan went down the steps first, and I followed after him, briefly hearing Damon's phone ringing as I walked down the steps.

I stopped next to Stefan as he crouched down to place the bags down on the ground. My gaze wandered around the entrance to the tomb and I spotted something unexpected. The white smooth moonstone sat on the ground. It wasn't inside the tomb, and it wasn't with Katherine.

"What the hell?" Stefan mumbled, having seen the same thing I did.

"Is that the moonstone?" Bonnie asked from beside me

I crouched down and picked up the stone. The strange feeling that accompanied the object hit me when I touched it, and it confused me just as much as it did the first time. I turned the stone over in my hand as I studied it with an inquisitive gaze.

"I hate to interrupt." A familiar voice caught us all off guard. My gaze shot to the tomb where Katherine stood, she had blood dripping from her lips, which immediately put me on edge. Katherine suddenly jerked a body towards herself. It was Jeremy. "But todays just been full of surprises."

The three of us rushed up and stopped short of the entrance. Jeremy had blood covering his exposed neck that was pouring out of an open wound, clearly Katherine had taken the opportunity to feed.

"I'm sorry. I took some powder." Jeremy apologized weakly

"Don't worry. I know that he's wearing his ring. No matter how many times I kill him, he'll keep coming back for more. So I'm gonna be in the back playing with my new little toy. And you guys just give me a holler when you get the tomb open." Katherine shoved Jeremy and disappeared behind him with a taunting look in her eye.

All I could think about was saving Jeremy. I didn't care for my own safety, I just wanted to go into the tomb after them and kill Katherine where she stood. My feet moved on their own accord as I rushed for the entrance, but a pair of arms were quick to wrap around my waist and pull me back.

"No, Althea. She'll kill you." Stefan spoke firmly into my ear as he held me tightly.

I squirmed in his grasp, but it was to no avail as his grip was too tight. "Let go, Stefan."

"Althea. I need you. We need to drop the barrier so Stefan can save him." Bonnie suddenly spoke up. Her tone was firm and it was clear that she was trying to get me to focus on something else. I nodded to her with a slight amount of reluctance, and Stefan took that as a sign to let me go.

"Where's Damon?" I suddenly realized that he wasn't here with us. If he had been, he would have been the one to stop me before I could have even tried.

"We can't wait. We have to get him out of there. She's fed. She has her strength back." Stefan said firmly

"We still have what's left of the ash. Do you think you can get close enough?" Bonnie asked
