I found myself being dragged out of my deep sleep at the feeling of someone shuffling beside me. I turned my head towards Damon as he moved over onto his side, his eyes were still closed and his breathing was even and calm. I smiled softly as I examined his features. He looked a lot calmer in his sleep, like he didn't hold the weight of 170 years of life on his shoulders.
It was sometimes an odd thing to wrap my head around. My boyfriend was 170 years old. He had seen two world wars and several decades pass him by. I sometimes forget just how much he has seen and been through. He's lived decades before he met me, who knows how much he's changed.
After a moment, I dragged my eyes away from him and slowly sat up in bed. I held the silk covered duvet to my chest as I did, not wanting to expose myself to the cool air of the room. I hardly managed to sit up when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist and I was dragged back down onto the bed.
"Where are you going?" Damon asked groggily as he shuffled closer and lent his head on my shoulder.
"Home. I need to work with Bonnie to despell the moonstone and free Stefan." I said with a small smile as I found myself relaxing into his hold.
Damon groaned heavily into my skin. "Can't we just ignore our problems for a few minutes?"
"We can't." I said, causing him to groan again. He didn't want to let go. And if I were being honest, I didn't want him to either.
I found my eyes growing heavy again as I relaxed into his hold. The bed was too warm and Damon's hold was just a little too comfortable. It took all of my willpower to keep my eyes open. No matter how much I want to go back to sleep and stay in bed all day, I know that I can't. Not with Stefan being trapped with Katherine in the tomb.
With a lot of reluctance, I managed to drag myself out of Damon's hold and head back home. Bonnie had already put up the barrier spell that would keep Elena inside the house. It was the only way we would be able to keep her from rushing back to the tomb to free Stefan.
I walked into Elena's room and collapsed onto her bed beside Bonnie. Elena stood at her bedroom mirror with the moonstone in her hand, she was rolling it back and forth as she examined it.
"Now you've got this back, what are you gonna do with it?" Elena asked us as she turned away from her mirror.
"Right now, it's what's binding the sun and moon curse. If we can figure out a way to remove the spell from the stone...the stone becomes useless." Bonnie explained
"According to Katherine, Klaus becomes vengeful." Elena pointed out
"Maybe. If he finds out." Bonnie said
"Klaus will come for us sooner or later. It's better for the stone to be useless to him when he does." I pointed out. Klaus is going to show up for the stone and Elena at some point, it's a matter of when, not if.
"Can't this wait? Stefan is in the tomb with Katherine. We've gotta get him out." Elena said agitatedly
"Stefan wants us to focus on this." Bonnie said
"Don't listen. He thinks he's protecting me, but he's wrong." Elena exclaimed
"I'm taking Stefan's side. We're not gonna let you get used in some creepy sacrificial ritual." Bonnie said firmly as she took the stone from Elena's hands.
I sighed softly at the angry look on Elena's face. "Look, I hate it too. But as long as Stefan has blood, he'll be okay in the tomb."
"Can't you just siphon the magic out of the stone and be done with it so we can help Stefan?" Elena asked, her patience clearly wearing thin.
