The two continued to walk at a slow, calm pace with Nezuko in the box while the sun was already high in the sky. They were still walking the streets of the village, but they were so close to the end. Their crows were flying above them, cawing loudly.
Although the pace was slow and calm, Tanjiro was still angry. His thoughts revolved around the demon king and the more he thought about him, the angrier he became. No new information was obtained from the demon. They didn't get ahead to help Nezuko. The only thing they learned was that the demons probably feared him and his power. This was more disturbing than exhilarating. If even his own kind were afraid of him, then that man must have been some truly great monster.
He was brought out of his inner wanderings by a hand grabbing his hand. His face turned into a calmer and more surprised expression as he glanced down at his subconsciously clenched fists and her soft hands. He couldn't help but notice how soft and pleasant her touch felt compared to his own skin. His hands were rough and scratched from the sword and a lot of training. However, [Y/N]'s hands seemed to be flawless. So soft, so soothing. That alone was enough for his fist to slowly release from his grip, and then he allowed her to intertwine their fingers.
"What's bother you? You seem so upset." she worried as Tanjiro let out a small sigh. She was so attentive and caring. His heart trembled slightly at her words and these thoughts. She always took care of him and that he was well.
"I was just thinking about Muzan. I'm annoyed that we weren't able to get more information." he said, then squeezed her hand lightly. "I understand, I'm not happy about it either. But this was only our first serious mission. The chances of us achieving such success already were slim. But don't worry. We'll find the right way and end it." she assured and squeezed his hand back. So many nice soothing words that only made the Kamado boy's heart beat faster. A few words that easily make him smile and give him more faith.
However, their moment was cut short when the two crows flew towards them and landed on their shoulders. Tanjiro's crow immediately began talking loudly, while [Y/N]'s crow poked her owner's face with her head in hopes of petting.
"Next stop is Asakusa in Tokyo Prefecture! Rumor has it that a demon is lurking around there!"
[Y/N] calmly stroked the crow's head, which happily flapped her wings in love. She seemed unfazed by the other crow's loud words. However, this could not be said about Tanjiro, who was somewhat frozen by the sudden new mission. He really hoped they could rest a bit until next time. Apparently he was wrong. He should have known that there is little time for rest in the demon slayer job. Keeping people safe isn't exactly something to wait.
