↳ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎: 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭

Time seemed to be in slow motion before [Y/N]'s eyes. Her eyes were wide open as she watched the sickles sink into the new person's body with immense momentum and force, instantly poisoning the entire body.

Everything was slow. The way she turned, the way the body was stabbed, and the way the body slowly fell to the ground, with a soft, yet deadly and loud thud to her ears.

Even Gyutaro was shocked. He hadn't expected anyone to suddenly appear and get in his way. He hadn't felt anyone approaching at all. At worst, he thought that Tengen would be the one who would be able to resurface, but it wasn't him. And that was even more unexpected. Of all the people he could think of, he would never have thought that this person would be them.

But before he knew it, he felt his body being pulled away and flung far away. A thin substance sank into his skin, painfully and cruelly tearing off his arms and one of his legs. Before he could process what had happened, he had been sent flying far away and crashing into a house with a painful grunt.

[Y/N]'s body froze. She had been tense, ready to fight, but at that moment she was unable to move. Her eyes were shaking, her breath almost caught as she watched the figure lying on the ground, the body that had left a light dusting behind after the impact.

It couldn't be. This couldn't be happening. Of all the people present here, every single one of them, the exact one she thought would be able to protect lay at her feet. The one she thought had kept safe and wouldn't let get hurt again.

Yet there he lay. Rui lay at her feet, his body immediately showing signs of the poison caused by the sickle. The purple, telling spots slowly appeared on his hands and face.

The girl's knees began to shake, the sword slipped from her hand. The events around her had long since faded into the background, long forgotten. She couldn't care less about the destruction that Daki was causing, couldn't care less about the sounds of her friends and Tengen's weapons echoing through the place, mixed with the sounds of the sashes. It didn't matter that some of the houses had sustained further damage, so they slowly began to crumble further, or collapsed completely.

Her legs gave out, she fell to her knees. A little dust rose as her knees hit the dirty ground, her uniform pants got slightly dirty. But that didn't matter either. Nothing else mattered, just Rui's body, as it lay there, motionless.

Why didn't she feel anything? Why didn't she feel his aura as she should have? Why didn't she feel the aura that was dark at first, but by then was slowly beginning to brighten, bringing new light into him, achieving a new redemption. Why didn't she feel the aura that was filled with guilt and desperately wanted to change, to be forgiven, to be protected, to be at peace, and most importantly, to feel loved and cared for, as she should have?
