Chapter 2
Wondering what to say to her, Mitchell walks in the house. "Ames where are you?"
"Up here Mitch, I am packing up my dad's room."
"What are you doing with all the stuff in here?"
"I am donating the equipment to a charity that helps people who are sick and can't afford the machines needed to help them. Some of this stuff has only been used for a month. They tried everything to save him. Dad's cancer was hard to beat." Her voice got low at the end.
"I know you are having a hard time right now. With your father just passing and all. Dad told me he talked to you, and he has this crazy idea we should get hitched. How do you feel about it?"
"Uncle Max is talking you into it. I know you don't want to get married, not yet anyway. Not after everything that just happened. Don't worry about me, I will be fine. I plan on going back to school, I've kept up online and I want to spend the last two years in the actual classrooms. It will be okay."
"I know they put you up two grades, so you are now what a sophomore in college."
"I start my junior year this August. If I can keep up with the workload, I will be done in two years."
"Look I have no plans to ever get married after Jacalyn cheated on me and took me to the cleaners. I have no interest in getting tangled up with anyone. Then dad brought you up and what he said to me is right."
"What did he say to you?"
"That we both care for each other and are lonely. That we shouldn't go through our lives without someone to be with. I know you and you know me. We would work well together and be happy. Neither one of us will be alone. It won't be based on romance or sex; it would be two people who like each other."
"You really want to be with me and have a family? I mean I don't want you to do this because I am alone. I will be fine."
"I think it would be good for both of us. What do you say we get hitched and build us a family." The smile on Amelia's face was so bright. The love of her life was going to be hers.
"I am starting a summer school class next week. It would have to wait a little while."
"Can you put off school for a little. I would like to get married soon and I would like you to move in with me."
"I only have two years of school left. I can start in the fall. It is important that I finish. I promised dad I would continue my education and become what I want in life."
"I don't mind you going to school. I just want time to get our lives started. Right now, business is crazy. I don't have much time for anything, the little time I do have I want to spend with you. If getting married now allows us more time together before you start school so much the better."
"When do you want to do this? There is a lot to get done. Like what house are we going to live in?"
"I don't want to live this close to my dad. He would be here driving us crazy every day."
"Fine I will start packing up the house. What about the beach house?"
"You can keep both houses, if you want to keep them it is up to you. Just remember that you have to take care of them. I don't have time to do anything else. I am not being mean I am being honest."
"It would be a lot to keep all three houses taken care of. Will we even have time to go to the beach? I am going to be busy with school and painting. You are going to be busy with work your dad told me you started a new project."
