Chapter 78

The doctor came out. She is one lucky woman. She has a concussion; her arm is broken between the elbow and the wrist. It is a clean break and will heal nicely. Her ribs are bruised but not broken. As for the baby if she stays in bed for the next few days and takes it easy for the rest of the pregnancy her twins should make it just fine."

"Thank you doctor." Collin says as he shakes his hand.

"I am telling you that baby is mine and you are not playing this game of who the father is."

Max interrupts the two men not wanting a scene in the hospital. "Mitchell right now all that is important is Ames. The baby, no matter who the father is, will be loved. I don't want her upset, this argument about who got her pregnant is not good for her."

"Max is right, the idea of it being between you and me will be enough strain on her. Unless you want the baby to die."

Mitchell narrowed his eyes. "You have too much to say and better learn your place."

"I am not Ames; you can't push me around like you try to do to her."

"Excuse me I am looking for a Collin Donavan."

"That's me."

"The patient wanted to talk to you."

Collin followed the nurse to Amelia's room. Max patted Mitchell's arm saying. "Son, I have to check on the kids they are all alone in there."

Standing in the waiting area by himself he felt empty and mad at the same time. There has been too much going on in the last few days. He is overwhelmed. "Mitchell." Carl walked in. "How is everyone?"

Mitchell answers him completely overwhelmed by everything that has been going on. "They are all fine, Ames will be here for a few days. It seems she is pregnant."

"Holey shit. Is it from the one night you told me about?"

"It could be, but it seems her and that bastard had sex right around then too."

"One more mess to clean up." Carl runs his fingers through his hair, not sure how to tell Mitchell what he found out. "It looks like someone wanted Ames and the kids dead. Really bad."

"I need a drink, let's talk at the bar. I am not needed here."

"If you want her back you need to be here and fight for her. Leaving right now and not showing her how much you care or showing the kids you're here for them will make them think you don't care, then you will never get them back."

"Your right running to a bottle is not the answer. Let's sit here and fill me in."

"We got a hold of the street cameras. It shows the van sitting at the light for ten minutes before she ever got to the intersection. It also catches a view of him jumping out of the van as it went straight for her car. The next thing that shocked me is Collin in his car must have seen what was going on and drove his car on purpose into the back of the van. Him hitting the van decrease the amount of impact Ames's car got. If they were hit at the speed that van was going, she would not be here, and I am afraid not all the kids would have been here."

"So now I have to thank him for saving their lives."

"It seems that way."

"You got any leads on the guy?"

"He is a small-time thug. I have men out looking for him now."

"Is there anything else you want to tell me? You look like someone just killed your dog."

"Now that you said that it seems Olivia's puppy is not in good shape. The puppy was on that side of the car when it got hit. The vet said he thinks it got hit by the door and squeezed hard enough to hurt her internal organs. They aren't sure they can save it right now they are working on stabilizing her."
