Chapter 10

Her phone rings. "Hello."

"Hello is this, Amelia Wright?"

"Yes, that's me."

"This is Mr. Samuel from the bank. I would like you to come into the office this morning if possible."

"Is there a problem?"

"I would rather talk to you in person. It would be easier to explain what is going on."

"I can be there in thirty minutes, but I can't stay long I have class today."

"This won't take long."

She walks in the bank. "Hello I am Amelia Wright. I am here to see Mr. Samuel."

"Mrs. Wright come this way he is waiting for you." She is led to a very large office where Mr. Samuel is sitting behind his large mahogany desk. "Sir Mrs. Wright is here."

"Send her in thank you." He stands up and reaches his hand out to her. "Mrs. Wright thank you for coming. I know you want to know what I called you for. This is a little hard to explain but your money is a mess."

"I don't understand what you mean. How is it a mess?"

"You received money from your mother's life insurance it is in an account with your name on it. Your father had his life insurance, and it is in another account also in your name Then you have the money from both houses that is in a third account."

"You want me to put them all in one account."

"It would make things easier. Your father still has an account here from his savings and the stocks he had in your husband's company. They are in his name and need to be transferred into yours. On top of the stocks you bought in your husband's company. The income from the stocks yours and his are going into your father's account and another account in your name."

"I see this whole thing is a mess. How do we fix it?"

"I need you to sign some transfer forms and allow the money to go into the same account. Then you need to sign the stock portfolio and have the money sent to that account."

I am listening to you, but I am not familiar with banking and finances. First how much money do I have?"

"If we put all the accounts together it comes to a little over two million dollars."

"Are you telling me I am a millionaire?"

"Yes, you are. Now how about getting started on cleaning all this up."

"I have one more question first. How much money does the stocks make a month?"

"You receive your dividends quarterly. Each quarter so far has gotten you 5 thousand dollars from your father and 4 thousand from your stocks. The company is growing and so are your dividends."

Amelia was shocked that they made that much money. "Let's get this finished what do you need me to sign?"

After thirty minutes the money is in one account. "All you have to do is put your name on the account. It is none of my business, but you have an account here with your husband and I believe to protect your money you need to keep the money in a different name."

"I don't understand?"

"If the money is in your name, Amelia Wright, if the business runs into problems the bill collector can take the money. If you left this money in another name, it can be a hiding place to give you a small nest egg. Not that I think your husband will run into trouble."
