Chapter 107

As they finished eating Mitchell cleared his throat. "Ames we need to talk."

"It can wait until tomorrow right now I am tired."

"The kids will be around; we need to do this just you and me."

"The kids will go outside and help with the animals. We can talk then."

A knock came on the wall. "Ma'am, is it a good time?"

"Come in Butch, Rodney."

"Mam, I want to tell you the shearers will be here in a week. I got the usual thirty and the fifteen more to help with the other bunch of sheep."

"Where did these guys come from?"

"They are part of the crew from the old man. I went over the ones that lambed this year. We did good we only lost twenty out of all of them so far that is."

"Butch this year I can't go out there to help supervise. Rodney you are going to have to fill in for me."

Rodney started explaining things. "Butch and I worked it out so the alpacas will be done the week after the sheep. The bunk house isn't big enough on the first ranch side, some are going to be on the second ranch side."

Is your wife cooking for them? I know she is not bad in the kitchen. Normally Sadie and I take care of it but again I can't help this time."

Ruth is looking forward to it. Butch's girl Marti is helping out, it will make things easier."

Make sure you have enough to feed them. After a long day they get tired and make sure they know drinking is not allowed."

"Crikey miss it has been that way sense we started they know the rules."

"The new guys don't. Butch, I know you thought the goats were a little bit of a waist of space."

"When we got the meat goats it made sense. Your young ins love them. They have their pups run them all over. With those tiny legs of theirs they get the job done."

"We are going to waste more space. I need llamas."

Rodney got excited. "No way ma'am you ain't serious."

"Yeah, I am serious. I am glad the idea makes you happy."

"The thing is there is a need for their hair. I know some of the ranchers are starting to handle them and if we get enough of them, we could make a killing in the market."

"We started with 30 alpacas should we do the same with the llamas."

Butch folds his hat, he has in his hand. "I would like to increase the alpacas the guy you made the deal with wants all we can raise. We could double or triple the stock with no problem."

After the sheering we will go after more alpacas. We need llamas I made a deal with the kids."

Rodney starts praising llamas. The llamas, they are like alpacas they are easy to care for. A lot smarter than sheep. We split the one ranch half and half we can handle a hundred of each easy, if you want."

"That is a lot to handle friendly or not. You would need more help."

"Maybe one or two extra year-round."

"We could split the houses and make room for more help." Rodney says.

"Butch you've been with me for four years and we have been doing good. For now, only thirty llamas. After the sale we will get thirty more they can reproduce to increase the herd. The Alpacas do thirty more and let them increase the herd themselves. That gives us time to get help and I want good help."

"It will take us two years to get fully in the market, but it will work. We got us seventeen thousand culls. How many do you want to keep?"

Half should be enough. Bring six up for the triplets."

They have ten baby goats right now I don't think they will mis not getting a lamb this year."

"They are only little for a short while; it is a tradition. I don't want to change it."

"I'll bring the figures, you knows my numbers aren't that good. Ma'am, are you sure you can't think about doing fifty of each then raising the herd up."

"You sell the culls and take a third of the money and buy what you can along with the money in the account to buy the thirty I just agreed to. Butch your numbers are doing much better. Rodney you can handle figures you did it at the other ranch you worked at, help him. Butch, I don't want to over work you two until we get help."

"I can get the help, and they will start out on a beginner's wage so it won't cost too much. The farms around here are selling out for big business and there are a lot of hungry men and families looking for work."

Amelia is quiet for a minute. Get two families to do the work. Take the larger one of the bunk houses and make it a house for both of the families. You can split it in half and enlarge it if you have to. After we sell the wool, we will build another bunk house or make the small one bigger." Use the small bunk house for the shearers and if we need more room, will use tents for the extra men." Butch gets a smile; I like it ma'am you always help the workers." They both nodded and went out the way they came in.

Amelia leaned back and rubbed her belly. "Mitchell come over here." Give me your hand. "She put it on her belly. That is your baby kicking."

He got the biggest smile. "Does it hurt?"

"Not most of the time. Every so often they kick something they shouldn't or get a little to rowdy."

"Thanks Ames. This means a lot."

"You didn't get to feel the first ones, I don't want you to miss out on it this time."

"Can I help you to your room?"

"I can do it. I will see you in the morning." Mitchell reached out quickly and helped her out of the chair. Amelia made a small gesture of appreciation and left.

Carl got up. This is not going to be easy. She is home and is not leaving. Hell, I wouldn't leave either. Her and the kids have a wonderful home here."

"Do you think I don't see that. I can't control her here. How do I keep her safe. Helen has already tried once she could try again at any time."

"Let's get some sleep. You can talk to her and explain how your ex-secretary is a psychopath, that if she finds her, she is going to try and kill her for a third time."

"Tell me why I brought you along?"

"You can't resist my wit and charm." Mitch rolls his eyes.

"You get in contact with Roman and have him set up security here for the farm."

"That is going to be hard. This place is huge."

"What else can I do. Talk to him and see what he says. Also find a crew to build her a bunk house and to fix the other one. She likes it or not I am going to pay for it. It is about time I took on helping support my kids."

"Remember what you said that she was living off of Collin. I told you; you were wrong."

"I said it because I was mad at her. I knew she wouldn't do that."

"Shit he was living off of her." Carl says disgusted with Collin. Mitchell gave him a funny look. "What do you mean?"

"Remember I told you his income doubled almost tripled when he showed paintings from artist A. Ames was making him a killing. Her paintings at each show cleared two million, he got twenty-five percent commission. That's not all it brought in other business for his galleries. That bastard did this to keep her in his pocket. If he lost her, he lost his meal ticket."

"I always thought there was something off about him and the reason he was hanging around this long." Mitchell flopped on the bed, stressed even more.

"You going to tell her?"

"Why he is dead it would only make her feel worse."

"You're right. Right now, we worry about the bitch that is alive. I am going to my room and getting some sleep I will see you in the morning."
