Chapter 76

Amelia called Max. "Uncle Max Mitchell is drunk and needs a ride home."

"He called you to get him."

"He is out of it. I can't leave the kids. To be honest I am not sure I should get him, he is only going to want more from me, and I don't have it to give. Uncle Max, I should never of come back. It is destroying him and me. It was bad enough the first time but this time the kids are being dragged in it."

"If I watch the kids, you could get him and talk to him. In this state he might hear you."

"I will get him but don't count on him hearing or understanding anything."

"I'll be right there."

Thirty minutes later Amelia is at the bar. "Mitchell time to go home."

"Ames, I knew you would come for me, my beautiful wife."

"Let's get in the car." Mitchell leaned on her as she struggled to get him in the front seat. "There you go buckle up." Amelia gets in the car and starts to drive. "Mitchell where do you want to go?"

"I want to go home with my wife. I love the way you decorated the villa. I moved back in because you are back. Do you know I had to move out of the villa? It made me sad. All I did was think of you."

"Mitchell, you know we are not married anymore, so why call me your wife."

"Because that is what you are to me. That is what you will always be. I love you Ames I always have, and I always will."

"The love you have for me is destroying the both of us. Can't you see that, look at you. This is the first time in five years that you have been drunk. When we were married you got drunk all the time. You are going right back to how you were then."

"Then stop breaking my heart."

"I can't live like you want. Penned up in your house not allowed to see anyone. The few times we would go out you would get mad at me if a man just smiled at me. You would drag me out in the middle of eating then we would fight. That is not the life I want, or my kids need. If you loved us, then you would trust us to love you back and not leave you."

"If I can do that will you come back to me?"

"Mitchell, I don't love you like that anymore, but I love you as the father of my children. I want the Mitchell I grew up with to be there for his and my kids. The man who made me feel safe and I knew would never hurt me. That is what the kids need. Not this Mitchell who can't control himself and acts like a man with no common sense."

"Ames can you take me in and tuck me in like you use to, just for old time's sake."

She pulls in the driveway of his house. "Mitchell I can't go in there. There are way too many memories. There are some good ones but there are too many bad ones. Do you know part of the reason I left was I saw what was happening to the man I loved. Being with me made you into something you are not. I loved you enough to let go, you have to do the same thing." Mitchell got out of the car and staggered a little to the door. He looked back then went in the house as Amelia drove off.

On Sunday Ames and the kids stayed home. She didn't want to see Mitchell and it was best if they stayed in the house. "We are having a movie and pajama day." The kids were not completely over what happened Saturday. They were happy to stay inside and not see that man next door. They didn't know he moved out and Amelia didn't say anything about it. Around 2:00 that afternoon Collin called "I will be home tomorrow."

What time are you coming I will meet you at the airport."

"Don't worry about picking me up I will meet you at the Gallery. There is so much I want to tell you. I mostly want to hold you in my arms, to feel your warmth and love."

"I feel the same way, I missed having you here to hold onto. The feel of your love for me makes every day that much better."

"Mum you are missing the movie."

"Sorry Conny I am on the phone with Uncle Collin."

"Uncle Collin are you coming home I misses you."

"I will be home tomorrow Conny, go tell your brother and sister."

"I want to talk to you more."

"I am getting on the plane if I am going to see you tomorrow. Bye sweet girl."

Conny ran off leaving Amelia to say good-bye. "I won't sleep tonight thinking of you coming home tomorrow."

"You better get some sleep, I plan on keeping you up tomorrow night, all night."

Helen on the other hand got a call from her dad. "We have it set up for in the morning. Make sure you don't leave your house or act like you know anything."

"What are you planning?"

"It's best if you don't know, then you will be surprised and not give yourself away. We both know you can't act for shit."

"How ever you want to do it, as long as she is gone and so are those brats. I sent you extra money this month like you asked."

"I saw it. Ten thousand wasn't too bad but I gave your brother half and then I gave the guy the other half. He wants five more when the job is over so you will have to dig it up."

"It isn't that easy to get money now that I don't work at the company. I can't use the company funds."

"That is your problem not mine. Have the money for him tomorrow and I want a couple for my time."

"Don't get greedy dad. After I give him this baby, he is paying me 150,000.00. If you are nice you and my brother can have half each."

That night Benny snuck over to the guard's car while they were on their rounds. He half buried a knife in the ground with the point up to lodge in the tire when they pulled forward.

Monday morning things started out like usual. Amelia got in the car with the kids to go to the gallery. When the guards pulled out to follow her the knife did its job. "Captain, we got a flat tire you are going to have to send the next shift in early."

"They are due at the gallery in twenty minutes I will tell them to head on route to the gallery and catch up to her."

"Collin had just gotten in the car he had rented. He called Amelia. "I am heading to you right now. I should be there in fifteen minutes. I can't wait to give you all a hug." He knew he was on the car speaker and couldn't get too romantic with the kids listening.

"We will be getting at the gallery about the same time. We can talk them. I'm so happy your back, Collin."

"Us too Uncle Collin."

Right at the gallery there was an intersection with a light. A dark blue box van sat at the light not going through it just sitting there. Amelia was at the same intersection with a red light. Collin was in the opposite lane facing her, he saw her car and was excited to see her and know he would be with her soon. Then he saw a blue van going straight at her car. "Shit Ames." He stepped on the accelerator and as the van hit the side of her car he hit the back of the van sending it sideways, not allowing the van to hit her car with full force.
