Chapter 37

Mitchell who had been standing in the doorway to the back yard heard what Evan said. He was angry hearing this and worried they would leave. They can't leave, not again. "Dad." He spoke out to let them know he was there.

Max turned to see his son. "Mitchell you are here." He could see the children run over to their mother. He could also tell they did not like him and were not happy.

"Mummy I want to go home. I don't feel good." All three children circled their mother in.

Amelia knew they didn't want to be around Mitchell but also knew he was their father. "Olivia I was just going to play freeze tag with you. Can't we play one game?"

Hearing her mother, she looked at her then looked at Mitchell then took her mother's hand. "You are it first."

The four of them went to play as Max went over to talk to his son. "She is great with the kids."

"I can see that. She is usually great at anything she does." Mitchell had to admit it to his dad and more to himself.

Max lifted his eyebrow as he looked at his son. "You miss her, don't you?"

"I wouldn't say I missed her. I was concerned because she had my child, children. Like any father I would worry if my child was safe and cared for."

Max scuffs at his explanation. "If you say so." He watched Mitchell stare at them while having fun. "Hamburgers are done come and eat."

"They look good Uncle Max. Kids lets go wash up to eat." Amelia took the kids into the house.

"They are ignoring me dad. How do I get the kids to talk to me?"

"I don't know son. You went after their mother and that made you an enemy. She is their whole world and love her to no end."

"I know. I shouldn't of yelled at her and made that scene. I have been looking for her and you all knew where she was and didn't tell me. Can you understand how I felt, how betrayed and abandoned. My own father and the woman that I married and had known my whole life lied to me."

"I screwed up the way you met her and the kids. This mess is partly my fault. I am taking Evan fishing why don't you meet us there and he can spend time with you and let him get to know you."

"I like that plan when are you going?"

"Let me talk to Amelia and set it up for next Saturday. I'll take him where I took you and Michael. We could ask him to come too and make it a family outing. The Wright men out for the day."

"Is his last name Wright? Forget it, it doesn't matter. I'll call Michael after we are done here."

"Just don't raise your voice at Amelia or the kids. They are good kids and very smart. Give them time and they will come to love you."

"Uncle Max, do you want me to get the plates and the utensils."

"I'll get them." Mitchell says and leaves heading for the kitchen. He needed a break from seeing them I was getting him too emotional.

Amelia looked at Max questioning. "What is up with Mitchell he never helps like this."

Max shrugs his shoulder. "Come on kids let's get the food arranged on the table. Amelia, can you get the ketchup and other odd ends."

When Amelia walked in the kitchen Mitchell was still getting the plates. "Hi Ames. Look, I am sorry for the way I acted. When I first saw you and the kids it was such a shock, after all the time I looked for you. Then you wanted to leave again, I couldn't deal with it. I have totally screwed up but even if I don't deserve it, I would like another chance to make it up to you. You and the kids. I don't even know their names."
