Chapter 17

Michael walked in the restaurant. "Mitchell, you got here early. You missed me that much?"

"Get real Michael with a big brother like you I could use as much time away from you as possible."

"Nice to know. You are still younger, and I can still beat your butt. What are you drinking?"

"I got rum and coke. You want one?"

"I think I will have a scotch on the rocks."

"What made you call me out of the blue? You and your girl alright?"

"We are fine, she went to her parents for the week. Her dad is very sick, and she is spending as much time with him as she can."

"That's hard to deal with. I feel sorry for her family. I remember what Ames went through."

"Yeah, she has been up and down with her emotions, and I am trying to comfort her. He is having surgery this week. I wanted to go with her, but I have a mess overseas to handle. I leave tomorrow. Hopefully I will get back in time."

"Your communications business is taking off. I always thought you would take over dad's business not me."

"I know granddad worked hard to get his business started and dad took it even further. They built a great company and you have doubled it sense you took over. But it is not what I wanted to do, I like computers and technology."

"Are you still getting married? You told me it was in a month from now."

"It is going to wait a while. As soon as her father gets better or at least strong enough to come to the wedding. She has moved in with me at least." Mitchell is swirling his drink in his hand. "What is bothering you?"

"You know it has been almost three years and I can't find her. She left and I don't think she is ever coming back. I don't know should I move on and start over with another girl?"

"You have been out with a lot of girls in the last two years. You started playing games after I got engaged. If you want to settle down is there someone you like or think you could care for?"

"You remember Helen?"

"Yeah, she is your secretary. She is the one who is always with you. There is something about her. Please tell me it's not her."

"I have a problem with her, I went to a business dinner, and I only had two drinks, but somehow, I ended up in her bed. The next morning, I told her I thought it was a mistake and it wouldn't happen again. She told me that she has loved me for the last five years."

"Wow that is definitely news. What do you want to do about it?"

"I have no idea. I am thirty-one years old, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone."

"Then give her a chance, she might be what you need. I am happy you are thinking about starting over, you have been missing Ames for too long. I love Ames and I hate what happened between the two of you, but I also don't want my brother to be alone the rest of his life. If you decide to look a little longer, I wouldn't mind, Helen isn't my favorite person."

"I might take her out on a date and see how it goes. I know I was jealous over Ames all the time; I hope this time I have learned my lesson."

"There is one thing you should do. Like it or not you need to tell dad."

"I don't know. I am not sure if Helen is the right one."

"You should tell dad you are thinking about it. I mean he could give you some good advice."

After dinner Mitchell drove to his dad's. "Mitchell what are you doing here so late?"

Mitchell didn't answer him right away, he was looking for the right words. "I want to tell you something, I don't want it to mess up our father, son relationship."

"Spit it out and we will take it from there."

'Dad, I wanted to tell you I have decided to settle down again. I have waited for Ames long enough. I can't live my life hoping she will come back to me."

"You have been going out with all those models and super stars. I understand you wanted to try to forget Amelia, but I hate the fact you two didn't make it."

"You loved her and made it almost impossible for me to say no about marrying her. I loved her like a sister and never thought of her that way until you brought it up. I married her more out of guilt than love. Just like now I am waiting for her out of guilt. I did her wrong and I feel like I let her down."

"Son, I can't tell you what to do. You have to live your life and I promise I will not interfere again." Max walked over and gave his son a hug. "I love you son."

"Then finding one to spend the rest of my life with is okay with you."

"Son I never want to see you alone. All I wanted was for both my sons to find the love I had with your mother. Find the one that makes your life perfect."

Down under Amelia was talking with the owner of the gallery where she showed most of her paintings. "Your show in France is a hit. This was your second show, they all want to meet you and love your work. I told you I would get you world renowned."

"You are the best Collin. Thanks to you my paintings are adored by so many people. I will continue painting until I have enough paintings for another show."

"Your next show is in England. They had a fit you did two in France, and they haven't had one. I would like to get the paintings you have of your children. They would fetch an extremely hi price. They are too enchanting and endearing."

"I put all my love and passion into them. I could not sell them for any price. Collin, you have been a dear friend, and I really appreciate all you have done for me. I really mean it."

Wanting to change the subject Collin asked. "I was going skydiving this week end you coming?"

"I can't I have a race. I only have this one left then I am done."

"You are so good behind the wheel. It is a shame you're quitting."

"That is a risk I can't take anymore. My kids come first."

"I can understand that, but I will miss you racing."

"I should go home to the kids. I lost track of time."
