Chapter 7

The whole time Mitchell is in the house watching and doesn't like what he sees. "What are you doing with that guy?"

"Mitchell, I didn't think you would make it home so early." She gets on her tippy toes and gives him a kiss.

He pushes her back forcefully. "I can see that. Who is the guy?"

She stumbles a little before she gets her balance. "His name is Joe; he is in my class. He lives a few blocks over and gave me a ride."

"You have a car you don't need him to give you rides." Amelia can tell he is pissed. For the last six months or so he is always pissed at her for something. He has even gotten pushy and physically aggressive. She takes two steps back. "My car is in the shop. I had to drop it off before class today to have a tune up and whatever else they do to cars. The mechanic mentioned something about my brakes. He said he would call you."

"Your car should have been done by now. I caught you in a lie." Mitchell is standing over Amelia glaring at her. He then grabs her arm and pulls her into the house. His grip is so tight it is leaving bruises on her arm. "Don't lie to me. I can see right through them."

"I don't know he said he would call you so you could tell me when to get it. I can't have my phone on during class, you know that. I told him to call you, even if your busy Helen can take the message."

"Helen would have given me the message and I didn't hear a thing from her saying you called. I don't want you to ride home with other guys. They have bad intentions."

"Joe is as harmless as a ladybug."

"You don't know that." He hasn't let go of her arm and pulls her up on an angle staring at her with disgust. "Next time you need a ride call me I will get you."

"I called you and talked to Helen and she said you were in a meeting. That I had to figure out my own ride."

"You tell her that you need me and to interrupt the meeting. I don't care the reason you stay away from that boy." He pushes her back and releases her causing her to hit the floor.

She gets up shakily. "I'm going to make dinner," Amelia walked off frustrated, with tears in her eyes. That night they had dinner and spent it together like they used to. "I miss our times together. I will be done with school in two months. Maybe I could help you at work and spend more time with you."

"I would never get any work done if you were there to distract me. Plus, there are too many guys around, you don't need to be there." He seems to still be angry, and Amelia doesn't understand why.

"If you say so. I was hoping you could get done earlier and we could have more time like this."

"No and that is my final word on the subject." The look on his face was so dark and domineering.

"Fine you don't have to get so mad." This year things have been changing and not for the better. Between people gossiping at work about how young and pretty his wife is and his secretary making little remarks, Mitchell is getting very paranoid thinking the worst of his wife. "I want to take on extra classes this summer then."

"You're always wanting to get out of our house. Isn't it good enough for you?"

"Of course it is, I just want to be the best and if I take the summer art program as a graduate it only helps me."

"This is going to cost you. I want a night with my beautiful wife."

"Baby I didn't go to the drug store and get the." She pauses. "The you know what's, like you asked. We are going to have to wait."

For the first time in a while Mitchell is smiling. "It is so cute you can't say condoms. I will be careful, and we will be alright for one night." That night Mitchell was hungry for his wife, he repeatedly took her over and over. This time he is rough, even worse than the last time he got domineering.

The next morning Mitchell is up first getting ready for work. "Ames I'm heading off to work. I will be home late, have a good day."

"Mitchell wait, I have a late art class, I will have dinner in the crock pot if you get home before me."

"I doubt it but thanks. You are staying late a lot lately." Mitchell says as he runs out the door leaving Amelia standing there.

She yells too him. "The art competition is coming up soon." He waves to her and hurries to the office. She looks at the bruises on her arms and her legs from him pushing her and grabbing her. Now her body matched what he did to her arm. He is not the same man. I don't know how much more of this I can take. She goes to the shower and realizes he didn't pull out. "This isn't good."

Two days later Mitchell came home happy. "I got the contract signed and I want to celebrate. You get dressed we are going out."

"That's great." Amelia goes up to the bedroom and puts on a dress, light makeup and simple gold earrings.

"I am a lucky man to have a wife as beautiful and understanding as you." Dinner was nice, the two of them in a private room talking and enjoying being together. "I want to go home and enjoy my wife."

"Your wife would enjoy that too." That night he was like when they first got married and Amelia thought maybe things will change sense the tension at work is letting up.

The next day Mitchell seemed in a better mood. "I will be home very late tonight. I have a dinner meeting."

"Would you like me to join you then maybe after dinner we could go to the lake and look at the stars like we did when we were younger."

"Not tonight. I will be home as soon as I can."

At eleven that night Mitchell came home feeling no pain. He also couldn't feel anything else. "Mitch, you have been drinking and driving that isn't good."

"Don't lecture me. I can handle my alcohol. By the way I got the contract and that means a new project and long nights and days at work."

"I thought we were going to go away for a few days when the other project was done."

"Sorry baby but we have to get this one right and it will make a big difference in our growth this year."

"If you say so." Amelia turns to go up to bed.

"Hey, come here I need your help." She walks over and supports him and takes them both to bed. The next few weeks she sees very little of Mitchel. When she does, he is grumpy and still mad at everything.

Early one morning Amelia tries to catch up to Mitchell before he goes out the door. "Mitch, I finish all my finals except the art competition it is in two weeks. I should finish up my project in the next few days. I hope you make the exhibit they are judging the painting and letting the public see them. It is half my grade for the class."

"I will give it a try. You know how crazy things have been at work this new project is time consuming."

"I understand, but it has been like this sense we got married. It would be nice to have more time for you and me. Listen, thanks for last night I enjoyed being with my husband." Amelia soft voice sounds shy with a hint of rejection in it.

"We have been married over a year going on two and you still can't talk about sex without turning red." He walks over and kisses her. "Love you see you later tonight. If you aren't too tired, we might do that again." Then he Kisses her more passionate. "This is a down payment."
