There was a haze upon Blaise's eyesight when he woke, a yellow shine over everything he looked at. His mouth was dry, like he hadn't drank water in fifty days. His mind was bunched up, the thoughts not coordinating properly and resulting in the most confusing stream of consciousnesses he had ever experienced.
Slowly, because his body ached, he sat up straight in his bed, jumping back when he saw Kali, Draco and Camden staring at him. The three of them stood at the end of his bed, inquiring about his every movement. It made him vaguely uncomfortable to see them whispering without including him in the conversation.
"What's up, guys?" Blaise rasped, his voice not aware that he had woken up and needed to use it.
Draco's eyes were suddenly filled with fire, intensity filling his blue irises. "What's up?" He repeated back to Blaise. "Are you fucking serious right now? You go on the worst trip of your life and you're asking us what's wrong?"
Blaise looked at him like he was crazy, because he can't remember what he did last night. He didn't remember getting to his dorm or falling asleep. Not even seeing Kali, and he was always aware when she was around. "I don't understand." His mind was still moving slowly, he couldn't focus on thinking.
Draco was about to say something else but Camden put his arm in front of him to shut him up. "Go to the bathroom and freshen up so we can talk."
This ominous tone that everyone had made Blaise anxious, so to avoid it, he rushed into the bathroom to do his business. It took him five minutes to brush his teeth since he couldn't remember which one was his toothbrush. Ultimately, he had to accio it, and obviously it was the green one.
He came back out and the apparent trio stood up from the huddle they were in, murmuring things that only they could hear. Blaise was already confused and this just pissed him off.
"Are you going to talk or are you guys just going to whisper without sharing?" He questioned, his tone dry as the desert.
That same fire came back into Draco's eyes, but he managed to bite his lip to keep whatever he wanted to say inside. Instead, Kali was the one that started speaking.
Her eyebrows were furrowed and the skin under her eyes was dark. "Do you remember anything about what you did last night?"
Blaise really tried to remember, but it was just a cloudy vision. He had nightmares, but he can't remember what they were. As an answer, he just shook his head, deciding not to lie to the people in front of him who looked at him like he was a science experiment.
"Well, last night you were on some type of drugs and we were really worried." She spoke slowly, not wanting to ambush him with everything all at once. "You could barely speak and your eyes weren't registering anything. Eventually you fell asleep and you had nightmares throughout the whole night. Does any of this ring a bell?"
No, it didn't ring any bells. It was shocking to hear what happened, his body ran cold. He wasn't a stranger to drugs, but this seems weird considering his tolerance is usually very high. Embarrassment ran through his veins, taking a hold of his brain. Draco and Camden probably assumed he had nightmares, but Kali was probably terrified of him. He feels horrible.
"Look, I'm sorry this happened, but could you maybe go to your dorm so we can discuss this privately?" Blaise asked and he regretted the words immediately.
Kali's eyes drooped down, her gaze staying on the floor. Her mouth fell into a straight line, like she was devoid of emotion. He didn't want to hurt her, but he had never felt more embarrassed in his life and he doesn't want her here to witness this moment of weakness. She started walking towards the door without arguing back, but Camden grabbed her by the arm gently, urging her to stay.
"Don't be an arse, Blaise." He said, his voice sharp, like a parent scolding his child. "Without Kali you were a mess, so you should be praising her instead of kicking her out."
She shook her head. "No, I can go."
"No, please." Draco said, his voice small as he looked at her with his puppy eyes that got everything he wanted. It worked again because she nodded once and came back to stand with them. "We have collectively decided to cut you off from your alcohol, any drugs offered by hufflepuffs or ravenclaws, and the secret stash of muggle cigarettes you have under your bed."
Blaise scoffed, he appreciated the gesture, but this was all too extreme for something that only happened once. "I think this is a little dramatic."
"You were gone, mate." Camden replied, shrugging. "You weren't in your body. We were scared for Kali to sleep next to you but she insisted that she was okay. That's how extreme you were."
See, this is why Blaise didn't get close to girls, or anyone else for that matter. He was a bit irrational sometimes and he didn't want to be scary. To think that Kali was scared of him breaks his heart. How could he get close to someone if he knew that they would get hurt by his account? What he did yesterday wasn't on purpose. Even if he doesn't remember he is one hundred percent sure of it, how can he offer up a piece of himself to someone if he is just going to push them away?
Kali and him got way too close for comfort, he started to forget why he didn't like getting close to people in the first place. He was willing to push aside his doubts just to get a momente more with her. Yet, he flew too close to the sun, and his wings were getting broken? He was sure that this wouldn't be the last time this happened, even if he wanted this to be, so he needed to cut this off, a clean break.
He gathered his courage and started speaking. "Thank you for your help, Kali, but I would really feel more comfortable if you left." He couldn't look at any of them, just giving the window a blank stare.
The knife he put in her heart kept twisting, and she couldn't take this much longer, so she nodded and gave a weak sniffle, which she was trying to hide. She gave Camden and Draco a weak smile and left the room, rushing out, like she couldn't breathe.
The atmosphere in the room was heavier after she left, like they didn't have to keep up any fake niceness. Draco took this to his advantage.
"You are a dick. The girl helps you all night and you can't even give her a proper thank you." He is visibly agitated, pacing around. "I don't know what the hell happened last night but it better not happen again. And you need to apologize to her."
"I can't." He hated this feeling, like he was a monster. "I scared her, and I can't do that again."
Camden shook his head. "You scared us, she was the one who took charge." He left it at that, a disappointing look in his eyes. "Get some rest, Zabini. You have class tomorrow." He pulled Draco out of the room and left Blaise alone with his thoughts.
a lot
He thought he wouldn't fall asleep, but his body craved the comfort. Except his bed felt really empty now that Kali was not here.MERRY CHRISTMAS! Here's an extra chapter to celebrate.
