Kali Swan huffed in her bed, she woke up again at three in the morning and her body refused to fall asleep again. This has been happening recently, she was tired but not tired enough to get into her slumber. This made her angry since she liked to sleep.
Her room was yellow, decked with Hufflepuff colors, courtesy of her roommates. Her bed was also yellow, but instead of badger print, it had flowers. Her mum has chosen that bedding in her first year and she stuck with it.
They had come back from winter break two days ago, so there was a sharp chill in the air. Her fuzzy pants and jacket were not enough to keep her warm, for she was always running cold. Her friends knew this and had special blankets for her.
Her frustration with herself was getting worse since she had class in a few hours and needed the rest. She tossed and turned but nothing helped her mind calm down. After a few minutes of closing her eyes and hoping for the best, she decided to see if the house elves that worked the kitchen would make her some tea or warm milk to help soothe her into sleep.
Lifting herself slowly from her bed, she tried to make as little noise as possible as she grabbed a scarf and silently opened the door. She went down the stairs that lead to the hufflepuff common room.
The room was completely empty, not a single soul in sight. She sighed, content with the vacancy of the always busy common room. There was something about the really early morning that Kali liked. Maybe it was the silence or maybe the darkness. Still, something called her towards this time.
She left the common room behind and the corridors were just as vacant. This made the air chillier, yet her scarf and jacket warmed her up. She was about to enter the kitchen, but she decided against it because her heart ached for the poor house elves who had to work every moment of every day.
She turned back, her mind racking to find where to sit while slumber overpowered her again. Finally, she decided on the astronomy tower. It was tall and you could see every star in this galaxy, no matter how far or small it was.
The astronomy tower was dark, the only light coming from the moon who shined like a fluorescent lamp. This was exactly what she needed, the fresh air. Her skin prickled with awareness as she came closer to the ledge.
Tucked away in between one of the columns was a figure, one that she couldn't see well despite her attempts at it.
"Hi, I didn't mean to bother you." She spoke, her voice tentative. She truly didn't mean to intrude on this person and whatever they were doing.
From the shadows the figure emerged and revealed Blaise Zabini. He was tall with dark skin and long eyelashes that cast a shadow on his cheeks thanks to the moonlight. He also couldn't sleep, but his situation was different.
For as long as Blaise can remember, he's had nightmares. The logistics of them don't matter, yet they scare him. He would rather not sleep for three days then get knocked out cold for fifteen hours. This sleeping schedule always worked for him if he had enough coffee in his veins to keep him upright.
He knew Kali from around the school since they were in the same years. She was a Hufflepuff and he was a Slytherin, so their social circles didn't mix together, but they were always nice to each other. They weren't friends, but they would smile at each other in the hallways. Plus, they lived relatively close to eachother, so they caught glimpses of the other every break.
"You aren't bothering me." He reassured her, a small smirk on his face. "So, what brings you to the tower at this hour, Kali?"
He made her flustered with his intense eye contact. Kali wasn't shy, but too much attention for more than five seconds made her uncomfortable. "I couldn't fall asleep again." She answered truthfully since she had nothing to hide from Blaise. "What are you doing here?"
