Part 28

1922, Los Angeles 

After sometime of running and avoiding Mikael, Nik and I had decided to settle in Los Angeles, hoping the bustling area would help us hide. Upon arriving and after a brief time house searching, we moved into a fairly large and pleasant house at the expense of a well-off small businessman, his pretentious wife and their two spoiled adult children.

"Nik." I groan, walking around the house in a long, silky blue dress and a pair of white slip on shoes. "Nik, darling, where are you? I'm bored." 

"Yes, Kie, what do you want?" Nik answers, appearing at the top of the staircase dressed in black trousers, a waist coat and a white shirt. "I'm busy." 

"Well be un-busy, I'm bored and I want to go out." I reply, playing with the bracelet on my wrist. 

"Then go, who am I to stop you." He told me, brushing me off as he turned to go back to where he had recently been.

I sigh. "But it's no fun if I go by myself. And you haven't left the house in days, you really need to go out to get something to eat." 

"Stop with your complaining, Kehlani, love. I'm sure you will be fine." Nik mutters as he closes the door to his study. 

"Fuck you then." I mumble, going to grab my things and leave. "So boring, not doing anything but brood. Vampires aren't any fun when they're brooding, it's so boring."

I go to open the door when I hear Nik call out from at the top of the stairs. "Love, wait. I'll come, I'll come." He says as he walks down the stairs putting on a jacket. "Don't say I never do anything for you."

I clap my hands excitedly before opening the door. "Yay. Finally. I thought you were going to spend the rest of your life being boring. So, where are we going to eat?"

"You choose. You were going out, you know where you want to go." Nik tells me as I link my arm through his.

"No, I was going to just eat whoever I came across first. But if your coming, we need to go out out and celebrate." I reply, pulling a face.

Nik sighs, shaking his head. "And wherever I choose, you won't like."

"Try me." I respond as we continue to walk along the road toward the centre of the city.

"No, because everything I say, you'll say no. So you might as well choose." Nik says.

"Fine, no fun asshole. I want to go to that bar where everyone has really strange clothes. Like the ladies with the peacock feathers and all that." I inform Nik, remembering the quaint but popular bar in the heart of the city a diverse group would go for drinks and dancing, among other less lawful activities.

"As you request." Nik teases as he drags me along in the direction of the bar. 

Once arriving, I compel us a bottle of bourbon before we begin our search for a meal.

"What about that one?" I ask Nik, pointing at a man in his mid-thirties dancing with a girl who keeps on moving away from him. "He looks like someone no one will miss."

"Well, what about the pair of them?" Nik questions, suggesting taking the man and the girl.

I scoff, looking at him from where we stood in the corner. "She's here with her friends, idiot. They'll notice if we take her away and she's found dead in the back alley."

"How did you-"

"Because look at that girl over there." I say, pointing at a girl who was dancing with a man. "She keeps on glancing over at them, and that look says she will beat the shit out of that man if he doesn't back away from her friend in the next ten seconds."
